Question

Premiere Rush crashes when attempting to export and render

I'm on version 2.8 on IOS. Had no issues until recently but now the old Export failure and crashing out of the app has started occurring again. It's infuriating considering the cost of the app. I'm using an iPhone 13 editing 4k video and stills from a GoPro. Does anyone out there have a fix or solution? Spend hours editing and get to the final stage, ready to share and then you get this ridiculous tech error. HELP!

Hi!

2024 and the same issue persists! But i found a solution to the app crashing and not rendering video with fan blowing to cool the ipad down and then held the ipad horizontally.

i went from never getting past 1%, to getting stuck at 70% , then completed rendering when i tried holding ipad horizontally.

Does position affect how app works ?

i also plugged my ipad in to make sure it was not losing power. Heard its best to used laptops plugged in.

any feedback @adobe ? What are your thoughts.

Rush still crashes on my Android every other project. I love the interface, but the export is VERY unreliable.

SOLUTIONS I'VE TRIED:

1) Change phone camera file type/recording. Some files work better than others.

2) Make sure APP is updated or roll back if it never-ending crashes.

3) Make a copy and cut into halves, export two halves. Rejoin in Rush or elsewhere.

4) Watch where it crashes and simplify or delete graphics/effects at that point.

5) Make a copy in Rush and try exporting the copy instead.

6) Restart the APP and try.

7) Restart your phone and try (seems to work best).

😎 Make sure u have enough space where you are exporting to.

9) BEST: Turn on SYNC under video in opening menu and sync to cloud then open Premiere and look for OPEN ADOBE RUSH project (bottom left).

10) Do a screen capture as a last resort.

BETTER: Adobe focus on their best software and then fully fix glitches/support it.

HI @VanceMellen,

Thanks for the info. Which device are you using? Is the device listed in the system requirements? Let us know more info about that and the media you are using. That would help the community troubleshoot this issue.

Thanks,
Kevin

How are we still having these issues? They've been going on for years and still Adobe refuses to fix the bugs and glitches. I've been trying to export a short video of 1 minute and the app has crashed over and over for an hour. When I try syncing with the desktop app, it either distorts the sound or doesn't import all the clips.

Just curious, do you have a bunch of old finished videos & files stored within the app?  I do & I am wondering if that is the problem.

I am having these same issues. Why have a paid mobile app if it can't render mobile video. It's infuriating. Deleting all adobe accounts.

Hi @Clayton33222916imiv,

I read your message. Sorry for the frustration. Can you give us more info about your project and what trouble you are having? If you are meeting system requirements, you should have no trouble exporting a 4K video.

The OP is using GoPro footage, which is not what I would consider video from a mobile device, necessarily. That is why I have alternate advice to handling that footage. I hope that makes sense.

I hope we can help with your issue.

Thanks,
Kevin

Mine is all video taken from an iPhone 15 pro max. It simply will not export. Crashes during rendering every time. Mobile Rush doesnt have many settings to adjust.

Hi @default3o2tmx2psc9d,

The solution, for me anyway, is to optimize footage before editing with it and exporting it, especially on underpowered devices like mobile phones.

Files coming straight out of action cameras, drones, mobile devices, OBS screencaptures, etc. cannot be considered "optimized," so they are not ideal to edit with whether you are editing on a mobile device or computer. Your iPhone is capable of shooting ProRes, so I would go with that as a test.

Is it possible to transcode GoPro and iPhone files into an editing codec like ProRes LT before importing into Rush? That would probably work a lot better than those H.264/HEVC files. You can use Media Encoder. If that is not part of your subscription, check out FFMPEG-based freeware, Shutter Encoder. It works well too.

You can also try turning off hardware encoding/decoding in Preferences and restarting the computer. That can really help.

Please report back after testing with transcoded footage. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Kevin

I don't accept that I should have to try to transcode my original footage on a computer to edit it on my mobile device. There is no product warning saying the app may fail if you try to edit video filmed with a GoPro. Since the original post, I have downloaded the app on my wife's iPhone 14, synced the project from the creative cloud and somehow it managed to render and export successfully. No changes to the original footage, just tried a different device. Shouldn't have to do that as the app is supposed to work on the 2 devices I previously tried - Sony Xperia Iii and Apple iPhone 11. Think I'll give Luma Fusion ago oncle my £40!!! Subscription expires. I went with Adobe as a trusted name. Misplaced trust it seems.

Thanks, James
