Rendering / exporting a video is SLOW on Mac

I'm exporting a 10-minute video, and Rush is only using 45% of one CPU core. It's taking 16 min to render at 720p. When I'm editing the video, Rush often shows CPU usage above 600%, so I don't get it. Would love to hear some ideas. Thanks.
