Question

Rush on iPad crashing, no network connection

I recently upgraded to the full/paid Premiere Rush [Version 2.10 (1)] to edit videos on my iPad (iPadOS 16.7.10).

Problem 1: Since the upgrade, every time I open the app, I get an error message "No Network connection. Only projects you have previously opened on this device will be available."

Problem 2: More recently, the app is crashing non-stop. I can't edit. I can't play back the video I've been working on. I can't export.

A little background to problem 2: I have limited storage on my iPad, and it appears that the Rush app "stores" all the file data for every single video I edit (even though I delete all the files after exporting my videos), so from time to time, I delete everything from the app and then completely delete it from my iPad. After that I re-install it from the App Store and can "start over" on the amount of data being stored by the app.
Prior to beginning my most recent project, I had just done this (deleted all the files, deleted the app from my iPad, then reinstalled it from the App Store). I was approximately 6 hours into editing a video when the app first crashed, but after that first crash, it now crashes within minutes no matter what I'm doing. I have also tried offloading/reinstalling the app (I'm desperately trying not to lose the hours of work I've already put into this current project), with no luck.

Hi @writermomof4,

I read your note. I understand you're having trouble with Rush's stability on your iPad. As for Problem 1, you can ignore that warning. It is a known issue that this "flag" was not removed when Adobe halted project sync with Creative Cloud in February 2024.

As for your other issue, can you tell the community more about the iPad's specs and the footage you edit? Is the footage 4K? Does it have a high frame rate, like 60fps? Is this HDR footage or footage from a different device? What kind of workflow are you using? Answers to these questions will help the community solve the issue. Sorry for the frustration.

I hope the advice helps!

Thanks,
Kevin

UPDATE: After reading through more posts in this forum, I repeatedly tried to open Rush until I could get it to "not crash" long enough to remove from my project 2 of the sections of video I hadn't gotten around to editing yet and the 4 titles I'd added (just doing that much took something like 27 attempts). After removing those, I was able to get the current file exported so I didn't lose most of my work.

From there, I deleted everything from the app and deleted the app from my iPad again. I reinstalled it and imported the file I'd just exported, and was able to continue editing for a little bit. Rush crashed again maybe 2 hours into editing, at which point, I immediately exported the file again (as soon as I could get Rush to stay open long enough to do, which took multiple attempts). I did this several times, each time only being able to execute a certain number of edits before the app would begin crashing again, then I'd have to delete the unedited portion of the footage, export the file, and begin all over again by reimporting the saved/edited footage and tacking on the unedited portion at the end to pick up from where I'd had to stop. Obviously doing it this way is incredibly time-consuming and frustrating!

I don't know if it's because my iPad is older, or if I'm running into some kind of ceiling in terms of the number of edits the app can handle, or something else entirely. I would really appreciate some help.
