Rush playback freezing

This has only happened quite recently but when I either open a project or create a new one, it will not play. All other functions work fine it's only when I try to play the preview that it doesn't work. When I try to move in the timeline it also works fine until I try to press play, after that the slider moves but it does not register. The play button doesn't even change into the pause button.
