Question

Rush really slow on Macbook Air 2018

Hi,

I'm trying to edit some videos on Macbook Air 2018 with 16GB of RAM and Intel chip. It's pretty slow. For example, when i select a particular frame and want to play the video starting from it, usually only voice will start and video will catch up with it in about 2-3 seconds when it's already totally useless. Same way, on preview some quick animations (for example mouse movements) will lag behind or just won't show every now and then. It's technically possible to edit like this but it takes a lot of time and is really frustrating at times.

I wonder - is it an expected behaviour on this device? Would the latest Air with M1 chip behave any better?

Hi there!

Sorry to hear that Can you share the following information?

  • Which device did you use to capture media files? Are they screen footage?
  • Does it happen with a particular project?

Let us know.

Thanks,

Kartika

Hi @Kartika Rawat
Thanks for your reply.  I recorded with Macbook Air 2018 that I mentioned, with QuickTime Player. It was indeed screen footage in MOV format (MP4 returned lots of visual glitches).

I worked on several projects and eventually things get very slow on each of them. Initially when I add just audio everything is smooth. Then as I add more video files, it gets slower and slower. At one point it just froze and I lost some progress because I had to restart the system. Clearly seems as though the Macbook can't handle basic Rush projects.

Thanks,
