Question

Video Stage Size, Low Export Quality

Hi there,

I'm working with a 4K video file that starts at 233MB. I've made only minor trims and some local adjustments (colour, rotation, zoom).

First issue is that the stage ratio seems to only be the 1080x1920, so I need to zoom my 4K video to avoid black areas. I can't find any way to change the stage size to fix this.

Secondly, when I export (I have tried both the Facebook and YouTube 4K presets, and custom 4K settings), the quality of the rendered video is horrible, and the file size is 23.8MB. The expected file size in the export screen was 188MB, which would seem correct.

Any idea what the problem may be?

Thanks in advance.

Another suggestion - please allow the user to fade audio tracks. Unless you find a track that 100% matches the length of the video, the audio track ends abruptly.

Hey there, Rob!

Let's tackle the easy question first. You can fade audio out by applying any of the available transitions (cross fade, dip to black, or dip to white) to the audio track! So that's good news.

I have some questions to help figure out what's going on with your software. When I import 4K footage, the sequence and the preview screen is correctly sized to the footage. Are all of your videos of the same aspect ratio?

I'm going to loop in some other experts and see what they know. In the meantime, would you mind providing us with some more information on your hardware? Here's what we need from you, with examples.

Hi Rob!

Here’s how sequences work in Rush. The sequence size (resolution) is based on the first video clip you select when creating your project. Maybe the first clip you selected in the Media Browser when starting your project was 1080x1920?

You can change the orientation (Landscape, Verticle, Square) in Rush by clicking on the More Options button (...) below the monitor > Select Orientation.

Secondly, when I export (I have tried both the Facebook and YouTube 4K presets, and custom 4K settings), the quality of the rendered video is horrible, and the file size is 23.8MB. The expected file size in the export screen was 188MB, which would seem correct.

I do not see a significant quality loss when choosing from the FB or YouTube export settings. I do see the file size shrink significantly, but that's expected since it's being optimized for web viewing. I would not expect a drop in quality, however.

Does the video look bad when viewing it on FB and YouTube? Or does it look bad when viewing the video on the desktop?

Another suggestion - please allow the user to fade audio tracks. Unless you find a track that 100% matches the length of the video, the audio track ends abruptly.

You can apply transitions to an audio clip. Try these steps:

1. Select an audio clip in the timeline,

2. Open the Transitions Inspector, click on any transition

This will apply a transition to the beginning and end of your selected clip. If you want to apply a transition to only one side of the clip, you can drag and drop the transition to the desired position.

Hope some of this info is helpful. Look forward to hearing back from you.

Happy Holidays!
