Washed Out Colors After Export in Premiere Rush

Hi All, I'm new Rush but not to video editing (I've previously worked with Premiere Pro and other video editing software). I cannot fathom out why all my exports are faded and VERY washed out – nothing like what I saw on the screen while editing them. I'm working on an 18-month-old, top-of-the-range iMac. Your help would be appreciated. Many thanks, David.

Hello! I notice the original post is from 2019.. 2024 here and I am running into the same issue. In the app, videos are fine, upon export now are washed out. From reading this and being determined, I found that applying a filter on the clips that are washing out; for example I applied a 'cinematic' filter and made the intensity 10. It offered no change in the app, and after exporting, now the video is closer to what was originally shot. Wanted to give my feedback, hopefully Adobe fixes the issue!

I actually found the issue was a sequence setting. The sequence setting for
"Working Color Space" needed to be switched to Rec. 709 to fit the normal
way. was used to seeing it.

Hey there! I experienced the same thing. So far, adding a color effect (found under the color option) works for me. I added one to commentate for the washed out look, then it seemed to let me adjust the clips as normal, so I just adjusted the effect to 50 percent over all clips (not just the washed out ones) and everything exported normal.  I hope this helps!

Easy solution is just to add a color grading LUT or look and have it at low intensity before exporting for every clip

I'm having the same issue.  Just got the iPhone 14.  Opened Rush app.  Added

video from today.  Went to auto export to save to photos.  It randomly washes out footage.  Looks aweful!

@KC Jones Sarasota

I read your note. Your footage is getting "washed out?" It's probably shooting in HDR, which is the default for new iPhones.

Turn off HDR in camera seetings with Rush. It will work as expected then.

Thanks,

So you suggest to record in lower quality and that is the solution!?

The other tested alternative is to place an empty title over the video. Can't remember exactly how, but i did it a long time ago and it worked. Best would be for Adobe to make the product work properly

Hi All,

Not sure why Adobe still has not fixed this known issue... but, please see the steps below, as this bypass works for me every time I run into washed out colours when exporting in Premiere Rush (without having to adjust any camera / resolution settings).

Steps when your video is ready to export:
1) Click 'Graphics' + 'Add Graphic'.

2) Click any overlay from the 'Overlays' pane; I like the "Like and Subscribe" rainbow pride Overlay + 'Add'.

3) Position the clip above your original video layer.

4) Extend the overlay to the entire duration of your clip.

5) Move the overlay so that it is completely out of frame (you will see blue box positioned outside of the canvas in your video editor. Be sure to move the overlay to the side far enough so it is not shown at all).

6) Export & colours should remain as intended.

I continue to get notifications about folks commenting on this issue, so I thought I'd share what I do, and this works for me every time I've tried it.

I do, however, think this should be addressed by Adobe, so we don't have to Macgyver solutions.

Hope this helps someone!

Best,

– Caroline. ✌️

i know this question had already been answered but i wanted to share something else i found with this same issue. i just spent 2 hours talking with Adobe customer support and after the 4th agent to help me i was finally told that this can happen when recording in HDR. i had this problem when recording on an iphone 13 pro with HDR turned on. same problem as above where it looks normal in Premiere Rush but washed out after exporting. i tried recording the same video with HDR turned on and off and edited and saved the video in Rush and the video with HDR turned off had no color distorsions while the the video with HDR turned on had faded colors. i wasnt able to submit any product feedback for this because Premiere Rush wasnt listed as on of the product to submit feedback on. im very much a novice to this as well so the file versions answer provided by @zambezishark wasnt fully making sense to me so i tried somethings else. hopefully this can help someone else as well.

Thank you for this! I'm also shooting with my iPhone 13 Pro max and just switched my settings. Looking forward to see if this works for me because the overlay solution didn't.

Hi Lori,

I recommend turning off HDR on your phone, as well. HDR is a little ahead of its time right now.

I switched my iphone camera settings to record in "Most Compatible" instead of "High Efficiency". That has taken care of the issue for me.

This changes the photos from .HEIC to .JPG, and the videos from .MOV to .MP4

Hope this helps someone

I had this same problem with Rush on my Samsung Galaxy z-Flip. The solution was imilar, under Advanced Recording Options turn off HDR10+. It says "some apps and websites don't support HDR10+". I've left the HDR (normal HDR) enabled

Same problem, fam ... in some spots in my videos the colours export to desaturated + over exposed.

No evidence of this at all whilst editing, but only after exporting, and reviewing the finished video.

Please advise if there are any fixes.

The fixes mentioned above did not work for me.

So I'm having this problem on the iPad looks like the fix was to have an graphic overlay present throughout the entire timeline. You adjust it to hide outside of the video area.  This allows the normal colors to remain present.

Thank you! A very simple fix for this annoying issue.
