Question

Image anchors not working in Adobe Aero

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with image anchors.

I have set up a scene in the desktop version of the Aero app (0.18.4) with my image that I would like as an anchor and added behaviours so that when it is detected, an image sequence (imported as a zip file) plays straight away. When I preview my file, it appears to work just as I want it to but when I share my file (i.e create the QR code and view it on a mobile device), it will not detect the image anchor at all.

Am I doing something wrong? I have looked at several tutorials and followed their process but mine just does not seem to work. I started with a coloured image anchor, which was one of the frames from my image sequence, but that didn't work either so changed it to a solid black, filled in shape so it should be able to detect it more easily but I still cannot get it to work.

I have attached images, the first being my file in Aero on my Mac (running 12.5.1) with the image anchor behind one of the frames from my animation. The second being an image from Aero on an iPhone after I have opened the QR code and you can see the image is not being detected, even though it is right on top of it.

After several attempts to get this working, I am completely out of ideas so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having this issue but its not my anchor, i tried a 3d animation asset and it worked. The issue for me lies in the png sequence. It's not picking that up at all. but it plays in preview

Hi Olivia,
I recently had the same issue and it was solved by making some minor changes and then clicking on the "apply changes" under the QR code in the Share window. I hope this will work for you as well.

Hi Olivia26052378qmbk,

Thanks for the report.

Do you mind PM me the QR codes you have tried, and I will pass it on to our team along with the image markers you shared for investigation?
Thanks

Hey - any solutions to this?  I also can't get Aero to recognize my anchor.

Thanks.

Hi Katherine25266042svxj

You'd want to make sure that the reference image you are using is adequate for AR tracking.
We are using Operating System level features (ARKit on iOS, ARCore on Android) to recognize the given image markers and track them in space.

Per Apple's guidelines:

ARKit requires that reference images contain sufficient detail to be
recognizable; for example, ARKit can't track an image that is a solid color
with no features.
Images with high contrast work best for image detection.

Apple's Reference Image Guidelines

In general,  image markers should:

  • have high contrast
  • contain a good amount of feature points
  • should not be on a transparent background.

You might want to give it try with a different image anchor that has enough details, features, contrast for the system to recognize it and track it accurately.
