Question

3D pdf viewing area shrinks to bottom left corner of window once it is activated

Normally when opening a 3D pdf, one needs to click on it to activate it. One can then manipulate how it is viewed. Sometime in the past 2 weeks this changed. The 3D pdf image initially appears ok but the viewing area then shrinks to the bottom left corner once the image is activated. This is on Acrobat Pro DC for Mac with both MacOS and Adobe on their latest updates.

This has been ongoing for almost 3 years not. Adobe- please listen to us and sort this out. It is totally unacceptable that you have know about this bug with M1 Macs since 2020 and you refuse to do anything about this. Ive pposted on this forum so many times, and nobody is engaged or wants to listen. The problem with finding an alternative is that non are particularly good at the moment, and therefore we are stuck. I did try 3D PDF Reader from the iPad store on my Mac but its just not as good.

Hi there,

Our engineering team is working on it. We  do not have a fixed timeline yet, the fix will be available in the future updates.

Thanks for your understanding.

Quick fix is to use a low res monitor. Anything close to 4k makes it shrink. Older monitors it does not happen.

Same issue here. I should be able to take high res screen shots from 3D pdf files, but can't as the full screen image is low res (and very difficult to move/turn). Do I really have to buy a PC to be able to do this, quite unbelievable!

Update! Found a way to work around this: An (old PC) external screen. In that one the pdf looks much bigger than on my iMac screen. Weirdly enough when I tried a new high quality external screen this didn’t work.

Also I had to choose in Acrobat Preferences, Multimedia & 3D, Preferred renderer: OpenGL 1.4. This way the pdf is high res and quick to move/turn (but very small on iMac screen).

Hi there, since this is a problem with 4k+ Monitors you can open Acrobat in "low resolution mode" (command  i) on Acrobat App. Works for me.

I agree this is not Adobe standards I am sure Alma will come back with a solution to the 3D issue shrinking to the left using Mac-OS.

Hi All,

I'm a graphic designer so I use the 3D PDF files to create hero shots for product and SOP documents.

My work-around: Set the Prefrence to Open GL [Harware Renderer]. Create the perspective required, then save the view.
Switch back to Software render in Prefrences, then load the views for full screen resolution.

I understand this will only help a few who use it for creating specification disgrams [Illustration Setting Fan]

Same issue at my company. All of our macs are iMac18,3's with retina displays. All of them experience this issue exactly. Software rendering is unusable. Switching to OpenGL makes it better, but the shrinking to bottom left corner happens.

I find this incredibly irresposible of Adobe to let an issue like this linger for almost a year. Come on! Lets get a fix in once and for all.

I have this issue too for quite a long time now. About one year back it worked perfectly, now the 3D model is shrinked to buttom left corner. Same 3D files work perfectly on WINDOWS....

Same issue here lookin at Medical Reports in 3D format. Th open GL change makes the image bigger but the movement of the 3D image is too slow for use.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described, 3D pdf viewing area shrinks to bottom left corner of window once it is activated

- Is this a behavior with a particular 3D PDF file or with all the 3D PDFs? Please try with a different file and check.  Also, please share the screenshot of the or a video recording of the issue for a better understanding.

If its a file specific issue, please share the file for testing.

- What is the version of the OS and Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version 21.07.20091 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

We are here for help, just need more info.

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal

It occurs on all 3d pdfs, both old and new. The working area is shifted into the bottom left quadrant.

I saw today that in Preferences > Multimedia and 3D, changing the Preferred Renderer from "OpenGL 1.4" (1.4 and not 4.1) to "Software", fixes the problem but it is too slow to use. There are no other hardware renderer options available.

I upgraded both the MacOS and Acrobat DC to the latest yesterday and there is no improvement. I also rebooted. The MacOS and Acrobat of about 2 weeks ago was fine. The versions now are Big Sur 11.6 and 2021.007.20096. It's a MacBook Pro 2015.

I have added 3 screenshots in sequence as described by the file names.

Thanks for offering to help.

Hi Amal

I was getting hopeful that you could help. Is there anything more I must give you? Is this an Apple driver problem with OpenGL 1.4 when used Acrobat Pro DC or anything else.

Best regards

Gil
