Question

508 Accessibility - Some text not recognized as text, but as the outline or stroke instead

Background: I have the latest version of Acrobat. I am attempting to tag a large document that I do not have a source document for, at this time.

Issue: When I try to tag words in a paragraph, some of the words are not being recognized as words, it's almost as if it is recognizing them as an outline, stroke, or image. If I try to tag the unrecognized words by themselves, it will tag them but shows as 'PathPathPath', it doesn't recognize the actual letters or words. This seems to happen after a word that has an 's at the end of it and it will continue for the next few words. For example, in the sentence: 'I went to my Mom's house for some tea.' It will tag the first part of the first sentence: 'I went to my Mom' but starting with the 's to the end of the sentence, it will not recognize those words as text. It only sees them as 'PathPathPath...'.  This happens about every other paragraph or so. I'm wondering if the pdf possibly got converted to Word and then back to a PDF, I'm not sure what happened to it.

Question: Has anyone come across this issue? If so, what did you do to fix it? I apologize in advance, I cannot share the file. If anyone needs clarification, please let me know.

Update: My assumption is that this is an issue with the source PDF. That being said, I'm wondering if anyone has come across this issue and been able to fix it without having access to the source file.

Hi @Jennifer24092416zjqw

Hope you are doing well, and sorry to hear that

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check.

What is the workflow/steps you are doing to create the PDF file from the original source file?  Please share the PDF file and the original source file so we can check it on our end. https://helpx.adobe.com/document-cloud/help/sharing-pdfs.html

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.3.20281 (Mac) or 22.3.20282 (Win) installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also, try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards

Amal

Hello Amal,

This is not happening on other PDFs. It is only happening on this PDF.

I do not have the source file for this document, it was not provided to us so I was not the one that completed the steps to convert it, if that's what happened (not sure at this point). I cannot provide the file to you due to confidentiality reasons.

I am using Version 22.3.20282.

I tried to repair the installation and that doesn't seem to make any difference. Since it seems to be an issue with the individual PDF, I'm not sure how that would help.

Thank you for your response.

Hi @Jennifer24092416zjqw

Since it's an issue with a specific PDF file, there isn't much we can do without looking at the converted PDF and the original source file. Please try to get in touch with the creator of the PDF file and ask him to recreate the PDF via Adobe Acrobat and check it that helps.

Regards

Amal
