"A more reliable version..."

I'm at my wits end with Adobe. I've been forced into Acrobat Pro DC because of some need features (electronic signatures) and have traded my bug-ridden Acrobat Pro XI for even more bug-ridden Acrobat Pro DC. Just in the first few days, I have experienced a dozen crashes, and once completely removed the file from my machine losing a day's work. A German colleague suggested to install the 64 bit version (less crashes he tells me) and, having to stand on my head to find it, and fortunate enough to live in France to have access, I follow the install instructions getting everything out of the zip file and running Setup. All of this just to get an error message that tells me that there is already a "more reliable" version on my machine so see you later and the install terminates! If this 32 bit verions is "more reliable", what in the world are they offering in the 64-bit version?? And Adobe, I realize you have a monoply, but this terribly buggy software is not condusive to your "rent the software" business plan! So, HELP!

i've had my current pc for over 2 years and never had a crash.  i've had acrobat dc on this computer and it's never crashed either.

 

 

 

i know that's no help to you, but it does indicate to me that your computer software should be probably be reinstalled.  i recommend you

 

backup your data files

reformat your hard drive

reinstall your os

restore your data

install the cc desktop app from here https://creativecloud.adobe.com/apps/all/desktop?action=install&source=apps&productId=creative-cloud and use it to install your adobe subscription and trial programs.

test your adobe programs to confirm there's no problem

install your other software (watching for problems to recur and pinpointing the problematic software - esp system changing software like av, antimalware, cleaners, defraggers etc)

I thank you very much for your reply. However, the machine I have and it's configuration is controlled by our IT department, and in this company there are tens of thousands of machines just like mine with my configuration. Actually, I'm one of the fortunate few that could argue to keep administration rights. And across the board, everyone is having crashed of Acrobat Pro DC...frequently. The idea of re-installing Windows on thousands of machines is a non-starter. As for IT support, they don't like Adobe to start with, and simply refer us to Adobe for support (or the lack thereof as the case may be).

So, again, thank you for your earnest reply. For now, I'll use my buggy but non-crashing Acrobat XI and use DC simply for the electronic signatures. Dommage.

The recommendations given above are very far-fetching, in my opinion. To ask someone to reformat their HD (!) or even to reinstall Windows just to get Acrobat to work is out of the question. It should work out of the box, just like any other application.

 

Do you have both XI and DC installed at the same time? That's a recipe for disaster. The DC installation should have removed the XI installation, or strongly recommended that you do so yourself before running it.

Also, why do you need DC for electronic signatures? Acrobat XI can do it just fine... However, XI is not compatible with Windows 10, so problems are to be expected with it.

You also didn't mention what exact version of Acrobat DC you're using. Did you make sure to install all possible updates?
