I have a user who has is opening up a PDF document from our Companies intranet website on google chrome.  periodically she gets an Access Denied message when using CTRL-F to do a search

she does have an account for Adobe Standard and she is logged in to her account

one day she can search the document fine without issues another day, the same document, she has to manually scroll through it because she gets access denied

I have asked her check and see if she has the same issue on Edge but it might be a couple days

any idea why she would this would be happening?

Tell her not to open the file in the browser. She should save it to her computer then open it in Adobe Acrobat (or Reader) directly, and then it should work fine.

Hi FirstNameL_LastNameP,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry about the trouble caused.

It seems to be weird behavior. The security feature can block access to PDFs opened from certain locations or via browser links. Chrome uses its own built-in PDF viewer, which may conflict with Adobe Acrobat’s permissions or security settings.

Please try the troubleshooting steps suggested below:

1. Try to Disable Protected Mode in Acrobat preferences.

- Open Adobe Acrobat.
- Go to Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced).
- Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at startup".
- Click OK, restart Acrobat, and test the PDF again.

Note: This should only be done temporarily for troubleshooting. Re-enable Protected Mode after testing.

2. Add Trusted Locations:

In Edit > Preferences> Security (Enhanced), under Privileged Locations, add:

  • The folder path where the PDF is stored.
  • The host (intranet site), if applicable.

3. Try using the alternate browser and see if the issue still occurs.

4. Try reinstalling the application on the machine.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
