ACCESSIBILITY CHECKER IN PRO DC VERSION

Hi PRODC Community,

After the  Accessibiltiy Checker runs, it throws in the check report different types of errors either as ' pass' or as 'skipped' or as 'failed'.

Now my questions are :

(1) Does ADOBE have a priority list of whcih errors can be allowed as 'skipped '  and whcih should not ? If so what is the criteria adopted ?

(2) Why when we run  different Files , we get both 'skipped' as well as 'failed' ?  There is no consistancy . Example Error " ANNOTAION FAILED "

Thanks in advance for psoting a response to my Query.

The results are:

  • Green checkmark = passed
  • Red X = failed
  • Blue ? = needs manual check, not "skipped"

I'm not sure what you mean by "skipped" because nothing in the report says skipped. "Needs Manual Check" means that this item must be checked by a human, not a software checking program.

Could you answer my specific questions as below that relate to ANNOTAION FAILS ?

1. If there is a feture for 'skipping' the issue for future , don't you think the resultant 508 checked PDF that gtes posted to website will have issues for the visually challenged reader ?

My question is why does the Tool provide an option for the checking person to skip?

2. This particualr issue does not have a 'FIX' tab for auto-fixing . Any reason ?

1. It may or may not pose an accessibility issue for the end user. Annotations are usually on hyperlinks, and it depends upon the hyperlink itself. If it's a short hyperlink like www.Adobe.com, then no, the annotation isn't necessary (but could be helpful if it's there). Similar with hyperlinks in TOC (Tables of Content). If the text of the hyperlink is "Chapter 3: Blueberries ... Page 10," then an annotation isn't going to provide any more information than that so it really isn't needed in TOCs, either.

The ability to skip the item in the checker is because sometimes the issue is important, other times not. The software checkers are not 100% accurate.

2. The annotation error is fixed in Acrobat's Preflight section of the Standards tool. The fix isn't in the accessibility report.

Hi Rajeswaran

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described, you want to know about the criteria for which errors can be allowed or skipped and the reason for the error messages.

Please check out the help article https://www.adobe.com/accessibility/products/acrobat/using-acrobat-pro-accessibility-checker.html for more information about accessibility checker and see if that helps.
