Acrobat 10-Activation servers retired

I rarely need this, but when I do, I do.
I purchased and downloaded this from Adobe.
I tried to use it this week and could not, receiving an "unable to activate error".
Chat told me "I apologize for the inconvenience caused, but acrobat X is end of life and will not work anymore as Adobe has retired the activation servers for it".
I bought and paid for it; it is legally mine; it's not my fault they retired their activation servers.
Anyone else running into this?

it's old news and many people have complained.

those servers have aged-out (per adobe) and have not and will not be replaced.

despite the many rants and many threats no one (afaik) has done anything about it.

the largest volume of rants/complaints involve cs2, cs3 and cs4 servers, all of which have been retired.

I don't believe that's true, at least not as far as I know, although things could have changed.

The activation servers for Acrobat 8 have been retired, but I believe those for later versions should still work.

I do agree with you that this an unacceptable practice, though. If a company does that it should offer its old clients a version of the application they purchased that doesn't require activation.

Normally I would not condone such behavior, but if Adobe is unwilling to to provide some method of running older software where it was purchased in good faith that one could continue to use it as long as it was a viable program then I have zero sympathy when someone does reverse-engineer the program to continue to use it. Adobe released a CS2 version for those that had a legitimate license so that it could be continued on without the license server in place. Why can they not do the same or similar for other aged out programs? Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 is more than capable and I have a paid license for it. It is an excellent product even on Windows 11 so disconnecting the license server could only be due to wanting to distance themselves and only allow those with subscriptions. If I'm unable to use it then so be it there are other products on the market that don't even use license server technology so once it is licensed it should remain with a perpetual license.

Having read this topic though has left a sour taste in my mouth for Adobe. I purchased the CS6 Master Suite years ago. Mostly no longer use it but that was a very expensive program and to simply discard it for subscription only customers is moraly unethical in my opinion. I do use the Photograher subscription and have considered the full subscription but I will no longer even consider it. I'll find alternatives as I'm sure others will as well which will help those other competitors improve too. Sadly Adobe won't even notice customers such as myself and others as they're a $244 billion dollar company these days. Even if a few hundred customers left and went with alternative products, it's a drop in the bucket they won't see or feel. Too bad really, but again, it is what it is. The sad part is no alternative I'm aware of is even near the level of PhotoShop. Now when it comes to AfterEffects and Premiere there are not only alternatives but arguably better products out there as I do use them already. ON1 is coming along well to compete with PhotoShop but it will still be a long while before it gets to the same level.

@ntdoc

adobe no longer makes that previously offered cs2 available.

i know they had trouble with people that never owned cs2, downloading and using cs2 so that may have been a factor in removing cs2 and never offering a similar solution for cs3 and cs4.

Thanks for the reply.
I can see why people complain.
Legally, I have every right to use this.
I'm now retired and only use this for volunteer work I do.
I've used their products for many, many years, but will now go elsewhere.

i don't really understand the legal issues either.  on adobe's side, they sometimes say things like, you don't own the software: you own a license to use the software.

how that justifies anything, i'm not sure.  maybe a software lawyer would know.
