I am SO fustrated!!! I have pdfs that I created and now I can't open them because Acrobat is requiring a password...which I NEVER set. Is there a universal password? How do I fix this? Everything I've read online about how to fix has not worked!! 😞

I am running macOS Sequoia 15.6

@Alice_Love5311 there is no "universal password" for Acrobat PDFs. The password is created by the user and is unique to the document. I have never heard of a glitch, where Acrobat apply a password or security setting to a document without the user's input, or a pre-existing setting is misapplied. It's normally done through the user, and even then, it's multiple step to do so

Or it could be the simple password:

Nevertheless, there were online tricks such as Preview and a web browser, but trust me that didn't work, because, I tried it myself! You could try using an Online PDF Password Remover—but, if it's sensitive information, I wouldn't. Make sure to use a website you trust, as you're uploading a personal file.

I am tempted to try to uninstall it, say the use of Adobe Cleaner and clear all of Acrobat remnants, and re-install it through adobe.com. And see if that fixes it

Thanks for your reply. I can assure you it is an issue...there are many instances on Google where people are having the same issue. However, all the solutions found there did not work for me. I did not apply a password so I'm pretty frustrated. I do appreciate you responding to my post. Thank you!

@Alice_Love5311 no worries. I would uninstall it,  use of Adobe Cleaner and clear all of Acrobat remnants, and re-install it through adobe.com. And see if that fixes it — it shouldn't be like that then! Don't use the same Acrobat Installer. donwload a fresh installer too!
