Acrobat 8.0 crashes in Win7

I had Acrobat 8.0 running for about a year now on my Win7 machine. For some reason it stopped working. I've reinstalled it several times with no luck.

When I open the program is shows up for a second or two in the task list and then just disappears.

Can anyone help with this?

Acrobat 8 was discontinued many years ago and is not supported on Windows 7 anyway. Perhaps someone knows of a helpful hack, but it's unlikely.

The latest improved (and more secure) Acrobat is now available as a subscription so you don't have to pay a lot up front. Consider a monthly plan at 12-15/month. See Plans and pricing | Adobe Acrobat DC

Seeing as though Win 7 was available starting in October 2009 and Acrobt 8.0 EOL was November 2011, it should have been supported on Win7.  That said, it was working fine (and still does on a second computer) until it just stopped.  If the software works and I have no other needs, why should I be forced to pay for an upgrade?  While the subscription service is a boon for Adobe, its a bust for most users.

Many software products start supporting new OS's after the OS has been released long enough to have achieved enough market penetration to justify the support. That's the usual case.

Anyway, relative to DC products (and even the 9.x products which started introducing sandboxing), Acrobat 8 is an insecure product and should not be used. While I understand your desire to use ancient--but already paid for--software (I do that on my personal computer), in such cases there are cons that go along with the pros.

The fact is most users have switched to subscription because the product is better, more secure, always kept up to date, new features get regularly delivered, and it doesn't require large up front costs.
