Acrobat 9.0 closing all open windows

Hi - I'm stuck -and it's driving me nuts!  I upgraded to a new PC (same everything, just newer & more storage) and Acrobat 9.0 is behaving bizarre.  When I click on the small X to close the file I was working with, ALL the open files close.  Used to be able to do this? Tell me I have a setting wrong?  The other thing that happens is when I open a pdf, the display comes up as desired with my customized toolbars at top.  When I open subsequent files, no toolbars.  And despite attempting changes - it doesn't change.  Any ideas?  Thanks very much!

Acrobat 9 is a very old version, not supported by Adobe and not compatible with any current OS. Problems with it are to be expected, especially if it's 9.0.0. You should at the very least update it to the latest version possible, which in this case is 9.5.5.

Go look at the Edit \ Preferences \ General. See if anything there can clue you in. I haven't used 9 in a long time, so I don't recall what it looks like, but on the DC version (which came after version 11), the closing multiple file problem can be resolved in that section of the Preferences.
