Acrobat DC freezes when enhancing multiple OCR documents

I'm having a problem where Acrobat DC freezes when trying to perform OCR on more than one PDF file in a session. When I open a scanned document in Acrobat DC and use the Scan and OCR toolset's Enhance scanned file button.

It works fine when I do it the first time, but if I try to use the same OCR functions on a second scanned file in the same session, Acrobat DC freezes and I have to shut down, then reopen Acrobat DC to get it to work. I've tried this with two different scanners (Xerox document feed and Epson flatbed), and their two accompanying different scan utilities, and get the same result.

Can anybody in the forum help me here? Have you had similar experiences? And if you have, have you found a workaround that got you past the problem?
