acrobat dc, install missing font

A designer made a PDF for us using Open Sans font.  I can view the PDF fine, but when I try to edit text the font isn't available.  I've tried Optimize PDF using Preflight, and Print Production Preflight but neither seem to work ~ 'analyze & fix'.  How do i install missing fonts, and how is it possible that Acbrobat DC Pro doesn't have Open Sans pre-installed?

Thanks

Trevor

Thanks Bernd, I'm not a designer and unfamiliar with some of the basics around system fonts v. application fonts ~ or so I thought.  Very helpful guidance, for others with same issue:

1. download desired font from Googel - Google Fonts  |  Google Developers

2. unzip file

3. right click on file > install

Thank you so much Trevor, I am also not a pro and your instructions really helped me, thanks for coming back to share. Some people just assume we should all be experts lol. Thanks again!!

You write " how is it possible that Acbrobat DC Pro doesn't have Open Sans pre-installed" but there are hundreds of thousands of fonts, costing millions of dollars. Clearly Acrobat Pro can't have them all, why do you feel it should have this one?
