Question

Acrobat deletes fields from tax documents

I just got off the phone with my IRA broker.  Called them because they sent me a .pdf of my IRA 1099 form.  This is a rather important document for tax preparation, and it *has to* be correct.  I noticed that the form showed that I had no "taxable amount" on my IRA payment, and that no federal taxes were withheld.  That was an error, and my brokerage told me that the information on the form was actually what I thought should be.  After a bit of back and forth with the agent, and after downloading the form again, which she said was correct, I decided to try opening it directly from my browser (Firefox).  Opened in my browser, all fields were present and the form was correct.  If I open either downloaded form in Acrobat, it is incorrect.

I am running Acrobat version 2024.005.20320 (64 bit).  It appears that Acrobat is deleting fields in the form.  I cannot tell if it's a defective form produced by the brokerage that Acrobat can't handle, or a correct form that has uncovered a bug in Acrobat.  But this is a very serious potential problem when it affects legal documents.  Could've cost me a bunch of money.

Hi @GrandpaCharlie

Will it be possible for you to share a sample form which we can investigate at our end.

Thanks,

The document is question is a form 1099-R that has sensitive personal
financial information on it.  I am a little reluctant to send it to
someone unknown.  Two things I can do are provide you with the name of
the financial institution in question or talk by telephone with a
representative of Adobe who can authenticate.  I might be willing to
encrypt and transmit the 1099 if I am assured it will be kept confidential.

Sorry.
