Acrobat doesn't work with VoiceOver shortcuts on Mac

Question

I can't get VoiceOver's navigate-by-item shortcuts to work properly when reading PDFs in Acrobat. Basic sequential navigation works fine. I can arrow up/down through elements one at a time. But shortcuts for jumping to a specific element type, like next heading (VO+Cmd+H) or next graphic (VO+Cmd+G), don't take me where they should, and instead kick me back up one level to the document pane, and I have to start over from the beginning.

Setup: Acrobat Pro 2026.001.21789 on macOS Tahoe 26.6.

This happens with every tagged PDF I've opened in Acrobat (such as this one). When I navigate sequentially, headings, graphics, tables, lists, etc. are all announced with their correct role, so Acrobat seems to be recognizing the tag structure fine, just can't navigate by it.

Has anyone else run into this?

Hello @Sun-dried+Brick,I hope you are doing well, and sorry for the trouble you had.Could you please share more details about the issue?Does this occur in all PDFs, including Adobe's own accessibility sample PDFs, or only in specific documents?Are you using the new Acrobat experience or a customized workspace?Can you confirm whether the same behaviour occurs in Acrobat Reader as well as Acrobat Pro?When the issue occurs, does VoiceOver announce that focus has moved to the Document Pane or another Acrobat UI element?Suggestions:Since Acrobat is recognizing the document structure during sequential navigation (headings, lists, tables, graphics are announced correctly), the PDF tags themselves appear to be present.Verify that Acrobat has the required macOS accessibility permissionsmacOS: System Settings > Privacy & Security > AccessibilityEnsure Adobe Acrobat is allowed under Accessibility permissions.Test with a known accessible PDFOpen a PDF that is known to contain proper accessibility tags and structure.Adobe notes that screen-reader support depends on the accessibility structure contained in the PDF. ​@Sun-dried+BrickI lieterally just bought a new MacBook Pro (love the M5 Max!) and one of the apps says I could use is Typeless. As per their page, ‘Speak naturally, andTypelesswill turn your words into polished messages, emails, and documents that read like you carefully typed them - in real time.’Maybe, VoiceOver can’t work with Adobe’s latest apps?
