Question

Acrobat extension for Edge: Print silently fails when browser has an Adobe session that requires profile selection (ims/check returns ride_AdobeID_acct_eoaChoose)

Environment

  • Microsoft Edge 155.0.4283.45 (64-bit), Windows 11 25H2 (build 26200.9448)
  • Acrobat extension 26.10.1.0. Reproduced with both the Edge Add-ons build (elhekieabhbkpmcefcoobjddigjcaadp) and the Chrome Web Store build (efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj)
  • Not signed into the extension and no Acrobat subscription. The browser had an existing Adobe ID web session from Adobe Admin Console, on an account with both a personal and a business profile.

Steps to reproduce

  1. In the browser, sign into an Adobe site (for example, Adobe Admin Console) with an Adobe ID that has multiple profiles.
  2. Open any PDF in the Acrobat extension viewer. Ours was hosted on SharePoint Online.
  3. Click the Print button, or press Ctrl+P.

Expected: The print dialog opens. Printing an existing PDF shouldn’t need authentication.

Actual: Nothing happens, and no error appears to the user. Ctrl+P is swallowed too.

Diagnostics

  • Clicking Print runs print → _executePrint → printUsingIntermediateIframe → _getDataBuffer → getContentBuffer → getUpdatedBuffer → _resolveCAIAuthInfo → getCAIAuthInfo → refreshAccessToken.
  • refreshAccessToken calls POST https://adobeid-na1.services.adobe.com/ims/check/v6/token, which returns 400 with {"error":"ride_AdobeID_acct_eoaChoose", "jump": "..."}.
  • After that, printHelper_main.js never loads and the print dialog never opens.
  • In a browser with no Adobe session (Chrome on the same machine), no token request is made, printHelper runs, and printing works.
  • Clearing the Adobe site cookies in Edge fixes the problem right away.

Root cause (our read): The print path’s CAI/Content Credentials step tries to refresh the Adobe session, and it doesn’t handle the “profile selection required” response. Print should fall back to anonymous behavior. Instead the error goes unhandled and printing stops without any message.

Impact: Any user who has signed into an Adobe site with a multi-profile account (common for business and admin users) can’t print from the extension, and they get no error message. Many organizations deploy this extension to their users, so this will affect business users in particular.

@Tu272658691f5f Have you tried uninstalling the Acrobat extension in Edge and updating Edge as well? Sometimes extensions can become buggy. I've had situations in the past where uninstalling the extension, updating the browser, and then reinstalling the extension resolved the issue.

Reinstalling time and time over didn’t make any difference.  The issue occurs across different systems and accounts that have personal and business.  The glaring problem is ride_AdobeID_acct_eoaChoose is not being addressed by the Adobe extension.  There is no followup to the response since Adobe chooses to return it as an error and stops the request silently.  If there is a valid token and it exists for only one type of account, or if there isn’t any account signed in, the validation process will continue (as user or anonymous) and you get printHelper.js to fire up the print prompt.

I wonder if any developer will ever read this.  It is an issue that I feel got overlooked.
