Acrobat fails to launch on MacBook

Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with Adobe Acrobat on my MacBook and I'm hoping to find a solution here.

Initially, Acrobat started freezing and became unresponsive. I decided to perform a clean installation, but now the application won't launch at all. When I click the Acrobat icon, it appears in the Dock with a dot underneath , but the main application window never opens. I can only close the process by using Force Quit.

MacBook Model: Macbook pro 14" M2Max 32gb

Acrobat Version: 25.1

What I Have Already Tried:

  1. Force quitting the application and restarting the Mac.
  2. A complete uninstallation using  AdobeAcrobatCleanerTool.
  3. Restarting the Mac after the uninstallation.
  4. Reinstalling the latest version downloaded directly from the Adobe website.
  5. Checking the Activity Monitor for any stuck "Acrobat" or "Adobe" processes.

Unfortunately, none of these steps have solved the problem. The application is still stuck in the Dock and refuses to open.

Does anyone have any further ideas on what I could try or what might be causing this? Are there any known compatibility issues?

Thank you in advance for your help

Hi defaultzvk9pzwcje93,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

Please try once to reinstall the application using the steps suggested below:

  • Uninstall the application and run the cleaner tool from the following link: Acrobat Cleaner tool.

  • Reboot the machine.

  • Install Adobe Acrobat from the following page: Install Acrobat.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Same issue.

When I try to open Adobe, the icon bounces in the Dock, but the app never opens. This started suddenly about 10 days ago.

I’ve tried everything I can, including reinstalling the app, using the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, and speaking with a technician. I was told this is a widespread issue affecting Macs and that it should be resolved in the next few days.

I’m running macOS Ventura 13.0..

Same issue. I've tried everything and Acrobat doesn't open. It's like trying to open in the dock (which moves a little when I try to open Acrobat) but doesn't open. Please help installing last version doesn't fix. I'm running macOS Ventura 13.0.1.

Never had this problem before.

Hi visual_student19e6,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue.

There is a know issue with Mac OS Ventura 13.0.1. For some it was resolved on updating the Mac OS Ventura to latest version. Please try updating the OS and check if that changes this behavior.

Hope the information helps.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

We’ve got a number of reports over the last couple of days about Acrobat not responding after users updated to MacOS 27.

For the folks who have posted in the last day or so: have you updated to MacOS 27? Please let us know what operating system you’re using on your Macs, so we can help you deal with fixes as we learn more about your issues.

First of all, thank you for the update.

Hopefully DFWTechGuy can help you further with the solution he’s offering. But you may want to scan some of the similar posts over the last couple of days to explore some other options for getting past your issues.

I wish I could offer more here, but that’s pretty much all I’ve got for the folks who hav en’t done the OS upgrade.

I have the same problem.  I don’t know what to do.  My entire job relies on Adobe and I have tried everything

Since you already ran the Cleaner Tool, restarted, reinstalled, and checked Activity Monitor, I’d check the macOS user profile next.

Try creating a temporary new macOS user account and launch Acrobat there. If it opens normally, that would point to something in the original user profile rather than the Acrobat installation.

I’d also check ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat and make sure your user has Read & Write permission.

If Acrobat still hangs in the new account too, then I’d look at macOS/security software or collect a crash/spindump for Adobe Support rather than reinstalling again.

So I set up a temporary new macOS account and launched Acrobat there. The behavior was the same: Acrobat failed to launch.

I also checked my read/write permissions by right-clicking on the app, and I discovered that I did not have Read & Write permissions there, so I added those for myself. (System and Wheel already had Read & Write permissions; Everyone had only Read permissions. I changed those too.)

I tried checking my permissions via ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat, but I couldn’t figure out how to do that as described in this support doc, because there is no <version-number> folder. Does this look abnormal?

Thanks again.

Same issue. Why is there NOTHING that can fix this???

I’m having the same problem as well. Two days ago (Sept. 14, 2026) the app seems to have auto-updated, and since then, it won’t launch on my MacBook Pro (M1 chip). I tried uninstalling the software using the Adobe Uninstaller, then downloading and installing Acrobat Reader from the Adobe page, and it still won’t open.

I tried using the Acrobat Cleaner Tool that AnandSri suggests above, but when I attempt to run it, it says that the selected product is not installed on this machine, so I can’t go any further. (I have tried that selecting both Reader and Acrobat individually, with the same result.)

I also tried downloading and running the Log Collector tool, but it just tells me “No Acrobat Installation Detected,” so I can’t go any further.

Any other advice would be much appreciated, thanks!

Hi warm_fantasy1c54,

Please collect the logs using the  Adobe Acrobat Diagnostic. You can skip the first two steps in the document and download the diagnostic tool from the installer provided at the bottom of that document. Once the tools are collected, share the log ID with us.

Let us know if you experience any issues.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
