Question

Acrobat ignores A4 print settings and defaults to Letter

NZ, 25th April 2018

Ongoing printing problem.

Environment: Win 10 on Surface Pro 4

Acrobat DC18, Continuous Release | Version 2018.011.20038

As per the forum question of: A4 default is the wrong size (forums.adobe.com/thread/303037), April 2008 (yes, 10 years ago), I'm unable to print to A4 paper.

I've followed all the advice / suggestions in the above 2008 post, and have had a second user check all my settings on the printer and in Acrobat.

Despite all settings correctly set for A4, when I hit the Print button, I get the error message that the printer cannot print to Letter sized paper (I don't have or need Letter paper). In other words, Acrobat appears to ignore the A4 settings and defaults to Letter. I'm now stuck and cannot use Adobe Acrobat as all my documents are in, and need to be printed in, A4 format.

Any suggestions / solutions would be v. much appreciated.

Thanks!

Resurrecting a dead thread for future searchers -

In Microsoft Word - File > Options > Advanced > Print > Untick Scale Content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes

Two years have passed since your post and Acrobat is still Ignoring A4 commands!

... and two more years and still no possibility to print in A4. Sic! What a lousy support.

Well, I figured out that there was a very subtle setting withyin MS Office that apparently caused the Letter printing. Unchecking that setting seems to fix the problem. Strange, since I have been using MS Office and Adobe Acrobat ever since both of them were invented without having seen this problem before.

Do you reckon it might be possible to share information about that setting for others arriving here after experiencing the same issue?

What is your printer? My printer (a HP page wide) is really obstinate with Letter size printing.

Hi Abambo,

Printer is: Canon MB 5160.

Only 1 cassette is loaded and this is A4. Somewhere between hitting the print key in Acrobat and the printer receiving the command, the program changes the format setting sent to the printer to Letter, so the printer fails to print.

Well, mine does not change during but before the print operation. Kind of defaults to Letter instead A4.
