Acrobat intermittently fails to send notifications when users are tagged in PDF comments

I’ve been tagged in comments on shared PDFs but not received email notifications for it. Others in our team have reported the same issue. It seems to be intermittent as often we will receive email notifications.

Missing notifications are absent in all folders in Outlook.

However, when the notifications do come through, they appear in my inbox.

There’s no filter on Adobe emails.

I was just recently tagged directly in a PDF that I shared, yet didn’t receive a notification for it. I can see the comment and the tag when I manually open the shared PDF. The user that tagged me has commented on my shared PDFs before and I’ve received notifications in my email, but not the most recent comment where she directly tagged me.

I’m not 100% sure if other users are logged into Acrobat as we’re a large organisation and only creatives have Adobe subscriptions. However when I share PDFs in Acrobat, I input users emails and they are able to receive the PDFs and open them up for commenting.

I share always from the Desktop application, although users may be leaving comments in the Web application.

I would have thought as the owner of the shared PDF, that I’d be in control of when notifications are received? For example, if I share a file, I would expect notifications regarding all activity on the PDF.

    Hi Robert32194799hqfj,

Thank you for reaching out and reporting this.

Tag notifications for comments in shared PDFs are generally sent automatically when users are tagged by name. Since the behaviour is intermittent rather than consistently failing, it may be related to factors such as synchronisation delays, notification settings, email filtering rules, account permissions, or a temporary service-side issue affecting notification delivery.

Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

    • Ensure all users are signed in to Acrobat with their Adobe account.

    • Update Acrobat to the latest available version.

    • Please verify that mail security policies or spam filters are not blocking email notifications from Adobe domains.

    • Test with a newly shared PDF and tag a small group of users to determine whether the behaviour can be reproduced consistently.

    • Ask affected users to review their Acrobat notification preferences and confirm that email notifications are enabled.

To help us investigate further, please provide the following information:

    • Are all affected users using the same type of Adobe account (Adobe ID, Enterprise ID, or Federated ID)?

    • Does the issue occur with all shared PDFs or only specific files?

    • Are the tagged users able to see the comments in Acrobat even if they do not receive the email notification?

    • What version of Acrobat is currently installed on machines?

    • Are the missing notifications absent from both the Inbox and Spam/Junk folders?

    • Does the issue occur when the PDF is shared from Acrobat desktop, Acrobat web, or both?

We look forward to hearing back from you.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi
