I’m using Adobe Acrobat on Windows 11.
I opened a PDF in Acrobat and later closed the document. After closing the document, Windows still reported that the PDF file was in use by Adobe Acrobat and would not allow me to rename or move the file.
The Windows message said that the action could not be completed because the file was open in Adobe Acrobat.
Closing just the PDF document was not enough. The file became available immediately only after I completely exited Adobe Acrobat. After Acrobat was closed, I could rename the file normally.
Expected behavior: once the PDF document is closed in Acrobat, Acrobat should release the file handle so the file can be renamed, moved or deleted without closing the entire application.
Actual behavior: Acrobat continues to keep the PDF locked until the whole Acrobat application is closed.
Environment: Windows 11.
I can provide a screenshot of the Windows “File in use” message.
