Question

Acrobat not converting spot colors to 100% black

I have this PDF File that I have to convert over to black and white for a film project at my work. The only issue is that when I convert it, it always reads at like 94% black or even 79% black, even though the Pantone color is 100%.

Is there a way to fix this so that when it converts it will be 100% black?

Hi @blkmk6golf

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

In Adobe Acrobat, you can convert spot colors to 100% black by using the "Convert Colors" tool or by configuring your color settings. Here are some steps you can follow:

  1. Using the "Convert Colors" Tool:

    • Open your PDF file in Adobe Acrobat.
    • Go to the "Tools" pane on the right side.
    • Click on "Print Production" to expand the section.
    • Select the "Convert Colors" tool.
    • In the "Convert Colors" dialog box, choose the color profile you want to use. For converting spot colors to black, you can select a profile that converts spot colors to grayscale or black.
    • Click "OK" to apply the color conversion.
    • Save the PDF with the converted colors.
  2. Configuring Color Settings:

    • Open your PDF file in Adobe Acrobat.
    • Go to "Edit" > "Preferences" (Windows) or "Acrobat" > "Preferences" (Mac).
    • In the Preferences dialog box, select "Color Management" from the Categories list on the left.
    • Under "Color Management Policies," you can configure the color conversion settings for both RGB and CMYK color spaces. You can specify how spot colors should be handled when converting to grayscale or black.
    • After configuring your settings, click "OK" to save the preferences.
    • Go to "File" > "Save" to save the PDF with the new color settings.
