Acrobat not working after Mac OS 27 Update. Reinstall made it work again but all of my preflights, preferences etc. are gone… This never ever should happen. EVER!

And Acrobat Reader can not be installed because “a better version is already” installed. I need the Reader also to check certain things.

All in all not good, Adobe. Not at all.

The reinstall probably restored the application itself but also reset or removed the user-specific Acrobat settings and custom Preflight profiles. Adobe stores many preferences and application data separately from the main app, so I’d first check whether the old Acrobat data is still present in the user Library or was removed by the uninstall process.

For the Reader message, that usually means the installer detects a newer Acrobat/Reader version already installed. Acrobat and Reader can coexist in some configurations, but the exact build and installation track matter. I’d check the installed Acrobat version and try installing the matching current Reader installer rather than an older package. Also, Preflight may need to be installed as an optional component depending on the installer/package used.

Hi All,

Faced the same issue and didn’t know what to do until I installed Rosetta using Terminal.

1-just open Terminal using the spot search or via Utilities in application

2-type this command: softwareupdate --install-rosetta and press return

3-type A to accept and press return

Acrobat and other Intel-based apps should work again now.

Hi @Mahmoud2970162607d4 could you please share exact steps what you tried because as per the apple release notes Apps which were selected previously “Open using rosetta” will be unticked and aps will start opening in native mode.
Also there is no dependency of Rosetta to run Acrobat

may acrobat runs under MACOS27. but i notied anothe rissue.

Acrobat itself runs natively on macOS 27, but I noticed another issue: Acrobat Distiller does not start because it is still an Intel application. It also did not prompt me to install Rosetta.

Fortunately, I was able to launch another Intel-based application, which triggered the prompt to install Rosetta. After installing it, Distiller started normally.

However, users who do not have another Intel application may never receive this prompt and may not understand why Distiller refuses to start.

When will Acrobat Distiller finally be available as a native Apple-silicon application?

And how are people supposed to get all their individual build preflights back?

You mentioned that they’re gone after reinstalling. You should be able to retrieve them from your backup (which I hope you’re running).

I wonder if, when reinstalling, you inadvertently selected an option that doesn’t preserve existing settings?

Yes, but you can’t add them back to Acrobat, they won’t appear. Even AI became desperate because nothing worked...

So Adobe is supporting OS versions when they are… how long released? You do know there is a Beta and developers can make use of it to be ready when an OS releases? A shame that every other developer doesn’t cause such problems… Its always Adobe.

You should never update to a new major macOS version immediately once it’s released. Before upgrading, you should also check if the important software you’re using is compatible.

Upgrading macOS without adhering to at least these two major conditions is asking for trouble, which is what you’re experiencing.

Beta versions can be full of various issues and while some of them are being fixed, others can pop up at any time. When the new version is released it still doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “ready”. It’s a process that takes time.

In general, there’s no urgency for the users to upgrade to the new macOS version at all. You have anything from half a year to another year or more.

Especially in your case where it seems like you’re using your Mac for actual work. Ideally, you need to first install Golden Gate on a separate volume of your drive for testing without affecting your current working system. Once you’re confident that the new macOS can serve you reliably and all relevant software is supported, you can upgrade your main system.

The Mac OS 27 has recently been released, and support for this version has not yet been added. You may encounter some issues since the application has not been tested on this OS. Please refer to the following help document for technical requirements.: Technical requirements.

Acrobat Reader and Acrobat 64-bit now share a single installer. If you install Acrobat Reader and sign in with your Adobe ID associated with your subscription, the application will automatically upgrade to the Acrobat version. Therefore, it is not possible to install both versions simultaneously.
