Acrobat Pro DC freezes when I try to "Send File"- Mac

Hello,

Whenever I hit the "Send File" button (the envelope), Acrobat freezes and I have to force quit. It used to work perfectly; I would hit the envelope, it would pull up my outlook and insert itself as an attachment. I didn't change a thing, it simply stopped working one day. I've gone to Preferences> Email Accounts and tried to tinker around and nothing I've tried has worked. Please help!

Thank you in advance!

Arvind,

THANK YOU! I followed your workaround instructions and found a PDF file from back in May in the SendMail folder that you instruct to delete. I assume this "stuck" attachment file is what was causing this issue to occur because after deleting the SendMail folder I am (so far) not experiencing the usual application freezing/crashing while in Preferences or after pressing the send file icon to attach the file to an email in Outlook.

One thing I do notice is that if I'm in Preferences and click the "Email Accounts" category on the left, the entire application crashes and brings up a Crash Report that can be sent to Adobe. Since the send file feature is working correctly this isn't a big deal at this point, but obviously something still isn't right there.

Thank you again for posting this information and I hope Acrobat phone support are also aware of this workaround to save other customers from wasting valuable time re-creating user profiles and/or re-installing operating systems just to resolve this issue.

Hello Mac users,

We did some investigation at our end and want to see if a workaround below solves the issue, it works for some users.

Could you please follow the steps below-

Steps:

  1. Quit Acrobat
  2. Open Finder on Mac
  3. Go to the folder: “/private/var/folders/”

   4. In Search section on top right of Finder window type “SendMail” as shown below. Note: Highlight “folders” option in Search bar:

       5. Note the path of this folder as shown below. This should be in /private/var/folders/ and the remaining path will not be constant and is created using hash hence we can’t provide exact path.

       6. Delete this folder.

7.Launch Acrobat and try the workflow where you are facing the issue.

Let us know if this resolves the issue.

Regards,

Arvind

I don't know if it's permanent but I got a fix by going into Adobe Preferences/ Online Services/ checking the box for sharing pane with email attachments.

I've also been battling this issue since earlier this year. It's happening on a MacBook Pro (10.13.6) running latest release of Acrobat Pro DC 15 (Classic). If I open Acrobat Preferences and wait 15-20 seconds, the application will hang and require a Force Quit. The same thing occurs after clicking the Send Mail icon to email a PDF. I’ve discovered that removing the "SendMail.acroplugin" file will no longer cause the application to crash in Preferences, but of course it also removes the Send Mail functionality from the application. I called Adobe support and because the issue doesn't occur when changing to another user profile, I was told it was an OS issue and to contact Apple. Apple was no help, blamed Adobe and told me to just start fresh with a new user profile. Five months later and this issue (bug?) is back again with the new profile. Creating a new user profile is not an acceptable solution to this reoccurring issue. I've used the Acrobat Cleaner Tool to remove and reinstall, I've installed an Acrobat Pro 17 trial, and I've removed Adobe preference files etc... the issue persists. This issue obviously requires a software engineer to track down the root cause, but must not be widespread enough for Adobe to invest any time with.

Send and track crashes Acrobat DC running on my Mac, using Mac OS.  I am on the latest version 2018.011.20040   I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but it still crashes.  Running High Sierra 10.13.5 on a Mac Pro with 64GB of RAM

Wow, I am shook....this is an ongoing problem that Adobe refuses to fix.  For every post on this forum about the program crashing when trying to use the email "Send File" function, I am sure there are hundreds of people having the same issue just waiting for a fix.  I am one of those.  I have been dealing with this issue for over a year, on two separate machines, a MacBook Pro, and an iMac.  For most of us we are too busy to take the time to call or research the issue (who has time to be on the phone with tech support for hours?), and then when we do, we find the problem dating back years, without a solution.  Not acceptable!  I've looked at a few other programs with similar features, but not enough time to decide which to switch too.  If anyone has found a solution to replace Adobe Acrobat Pro DC that they are happy with, I think we need to start sharing it here.  People need to know what alternatives are out there, so we do not feel stuck with a software provider that does not address its issues and does not provide solutions.

I totally agree! I traded several emails with support and then was instructed to call into the tech support line so they could remote in to my machine and try to fix the issue. I spent over an hour on the phone with support while they tried a bunch of things, only to have them tell me it was a “bug” and that there is no fix. Wow. The guy said the Adobe folks are aware of the issue and “the best people” were “hard at work” to fix it. Really?? This issue is months old, and still no fix. If anyone has found a good alternative program to use I’d love to know, because I use (or rather try to use, then have to Force Quit Acrobat) this function 15-20 times a day easily. This function not working is unacceptable.

Note: I know this is a Mac thread but on your Mac you might be able to get this to work. I came across this today at work and we run Windows 10 and Office365.

After a bit of fault finding I went into Control Panel - Credential Manager - Windows Credentials - Generic Credentials, and cleared all the MicrosoftOffice16 passwords.

Then went back to my .pdf - "Send File - Attach to email" and it did pop up a window asking for my Windows Credentials which i entered, and it has worked fine since. Not sure why but Acrobat has not frozen since deleting and re-entering my domain password.

Maybe if you clear an Adobe or Office password from your Keychain it may work.

Thank you Peetee for offering a solution. Unfortunately this didn't work for me. Besides that... I just expect all elements of a program to work instead going through all technical hassles. It's not that I'm a novice user but you should expect a simple solution from the seller of the program. Thanks for your advice anyway.

I've also had this problem for a few months.  I've reported it to Apple with no response.  This seems like such a simple fix, Adobe needs to look into this or I'm going to have to switch to another solution for me and my team. Ridiculous.

I don't get it. Nor Adobe nor Apple responds. As this is an issue with Adobe Acrobat (that's the program that freezes) you should expect at least an answer. Even the staff members are silent. What going on? I just want to do my job.

I am having the same issue and it is driving me nuts!  I am running High Sierra with the latest version of Acrobat Pro DC, Office and every time I try to send a pdf via Adobe to Outlook Acrobat hangs and I have to force quit.  Has anyone had any luck fixing this?

I have been running to this problem as well. I have all the latest versions installed.  This stopped working in one of the Acrobat updates about 2 months ago in September 2017.  I have reported the issue formally and spent a large amount of time on the phone giving them information, tracebacks, and making sure the developer could reproduce it.  It is bug #ADC-4221646.  This is severely effecting the workflow for all of my employees and I'm considering moving to another PDF product because they don't seem to want to fix a hang.  I am evaluating other products now.  Adobe was the complete solution until this happened.

When I wrote software we were horrified if we knew about a hang like this and would try to get a fix or at least a workaround out immediately.  A user having to do a kill -9 was always more embarrassing than a crash.

Since we have team DC licenses Adobe is unable or unwilling to give me a downgrade temporarily until it is fixed.  There is apparently no way to give me an installer which I do not believe.  Its software--you can certainly rebuild me an old version for standalone!

It would be a lot easier to just fix this thing.  Go look at your code changes from the last few months that deal with the Send function!!!  I'd happily fix this thing myself!

drcweller, please let me know what program you find and/or move to. I’m to that point also. I have to save every single pdf that I want to send and attach it through Outlook and then go back and delete it because it is not something I would typically save (I just need to send). Such a pain.
