Don’t rely on separations preview, which will indicate potential seps using profiles and colour settings that may not be used at the final RIP... Use the object inspector to verify the actual colour values and ICC profile/deviceCMYK.

If you want to know what objects are affected by your colour settings then in Output Preview select "Not Device CMYK" any objects you see will be colour managed.

Compare your colour settings, I suspect one is on SWOP and one is on ISO Coated as default CMYK.

Are you using PDFx4? Normally there is colour management happening, possibly without you having made a conscious desnicion. Check that text is Device CMYK.

Go to "Print Production" Tools, choose "Convert Colors".You can fix this by choosing Text and "decalibrating" it will then retain the CMYK values but strip any ICC profile associated to it.

If text is RGB text checking "Preserve Black" and "Promote Gray to CMYK Black" will help.

This panel has many under appreciated goodies.

There are other ways to do this, and there are Preflight Profiles you could run.

Lukas, Thanks, I tried to change these settings as you described but they wont save, always goes back to the default settings, -

I save the settings, checked the type, it was the same CMYK, Quit Acrobat, reopened the same file Color Conversion went back to default Settings, ???

This changes the document you have open. It is not a preference, it does not change the settings.

My guess is that you have the same Colour settings on all your apps so when you check your own PDFs there is no conversion, all looks good. But your client/customer has different settings and therefore there is a conversion between their CMYK and your CMYK.

Decalibrate removes the embedded ICC of the objects (in the specified scope) so that they become "Device CMYK".

I would recommend that you use a PDFx1a or that you use a PDFx4 setting where you DO NOT EMBEDD PROFILES if you don't want colour management to take place. Colour management is a large field and cannot be taught by a post. This was a fix and cannot replace proper education and training.

It can also be settings on your RIP, that can't be excluded. I cannot know how your RIP is handling "Output Intent", but normally it is ignored if the Output Intent is compatible with the Print conditions, and should only be used when repurposing or proofing.

I suppose when you say CMYK you mean a mix of CMYK and not CMY=0% and K=100%?

Yes Its always a CMYK Mix in dc although its not - Customer supplied or Pdfs I create in house exactly same - Acrobat 8 previews properly -
