Question

Acrobat Pro DC web works. Acrobat Pro DC desktop doesn't work.

I'm on a trial with Acrobat Pro DC. When I try to add files to any of the Tools in the desktop version, most file types are grayed out, such as docx, pptx, xlsx. The jpg and png files are not grayed out.

When I try to add files to the web version, the same files are not grayed out. It works fine.

I've restarted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat Pro DC, and checked the grayed out files to make sure the permissions are Read & Write. I'm using the latest version of the program and no new updates are available.

My laptop is a Macbook Pro using Mojave, OS version 10.14.6

What else should I do if I want to use the desktop version?

Thank you.

Hi Jerry,

You are correct that it's important to be able to work from the desktop/computer as opposed to the Clouds. If you happen to have a ginormous document, the whole Cloud system does falter and may even fail.

You said you have checked the Read & Write permissions, but did you check the System Preferences for Security? Apple goes out of their way to make sure you are far from any viruses or issues even if the process can be a bit of a PIA on occasion. On the possibility you need it, here are the instructions:

Go to your System Preferences and select Security & Privacy. Click on the Privacy Tab, then scroll down till you see Full Disk Access.

Then unlock the lock in the bottom left with your system authorization PW. Finally click on the “+” to bring up an Open window and select LRC and any other applications that needs or may need open access to various areas of your computer.

But wait, there’s more…

Now click on the next folder down, Files and Folders. You’ll see many applications grayed out because these are applications that already got permission from the first part.

But as you scroll down you may see other applications that have sub-categories to OK. If that lock is still open, you can do this at any time.

Let me know if this is the secret handshake to make Acroabat Pro work for you.

Thank you! No doubt the instructions work if carried out in full. I did add all the Adobe applications to Full Disk Access, but that didn't solve the problem.

I do not have the Files and Folders option. The option following Full Disk Access is called Automation.

I've been using Lightroom Classic and Photoshop for many years without any such problems. I'd like to add Acrobat Pro DC if I can get it to work.

Also, I googled LRC and couldn't find anything.

If you wish to help further, that would be great. If not, that's okay. I'll use the web version and keep trying to figure out what's wrong.

Hi Jerry,

Forgive me I missed that you were on Mojave. Some of the options in the screenshots I provided are from Catalina (I'm on Big Sur myself right now, but there's no difference between those two in the screenshots). My screenshots showed LRC simply because I was helping someone in the LRC forum and used that to show the process. I've used the same images for Bridge and for Acrobat. Nonetheless, it should show up there.

If you're not seeing Acrobat in the Files & Folders, did you unlock the lock icon? If not, please try to do that and then click on the "+" symbol and then locate Acrobat in the Finder's search window. It should show up. (The "+" is grayed out in the screenshot below because I've not unlocked the lock icon.)

Thanks,
