Question

Acrobat Pro freezes on opening

Every single time I open Acrobat Pro regardless if it is opening a small PDF, a large one, or no PDF, it will open up, work for a second or two then freeze and say "(not responding)" at the top of the window. It will stay frozen for about 5 seconds then go back to working as per usual.

This only happens when initially opening the app, so if I leave the app open and come back to it, this will not happen.

I have tried every possible workaround thats posted on the community board and nothing works...

A small inconvenience but quite annoying when you use this app multiple times an hour every day.

PLEASE FIGURE THIS OUT ADBOE!!! I also tried the repair installation and did not work.

I've been having the same problem for the last few weeks or more.  It's not only hanging when I open a .pdf, just opening the application itself causes the same issue.  Repair installation didn't help. Log out/log in no help.

Hi Corey22150055v1jb,

This has recently started happening to me and to all my co-workers in my small company.  I suspect that this has something to do with the behind-the-scenes user authentication that occurs whenever you start up Acrobat.  If you've ever tried to put Acrobat on more than two devices, you're probably familiar with the log-in screen that pops up asking you to log out of one of your other sessions.  Even though I only have two devices connected to my Acrobat account now, I suspect the 5-second delay is Acrobat "phoning home" to make sure I'm legitimate.  This would also explain why the friendly Acrobat employees don't seem to be able to help with this problem.  They probably either haven't been told, or don't want to know, as it is probably an internal bug they're working on and don't want to admit to.

However, in order to not completely discount other possibilities, I wonder if it could possibly be related to browser plug-ins?  If it were, however, wouldn't the employees have been able to give us some advice in this regard by now?

Still hopeful for an actual fix,

Doug

This also just started happening to me about 1-2 weeks ago. Hopefully they get it sorted but I do not have faith.

I have the same problem for years and none of the proposed solutions by Amal and Katem work 😕😕
I have the updates continiously installed, ran as admin, reinstall and repair...none fixed the problem!

Hi there

We are sorry to hear that the issue still persists, Would you mind collecting the Adobe Crash/freeze logs https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/collect-logs-crash-freeze.html and share them via any cloud storage. Just upload the log file to the cloud and generate the link and share that link with us for further investigation.

Regards
Amal

Hi @Corey22150055v1jb

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that

What is the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.3.20314 or 22.3.20322 (Win Only) installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also, try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check.

Also, please go through the help pages listed below:

Let us know how it goes.

Regards

Amal
