Acrobat Pro on Mac The Selected Color Format is not supported

I'm using an HP LaserJet M479 all-in-one.  All was working well on my old MacBook Pro (Intel), but not on my new MacBook Pro M4 (software was re-installed, not migrated).

Now, when scanning in color, I always get the error "The Selected Color Format is not supported". Scanning using Image Capture works fine, so it seems to be an Acrobat problem.

Anyone have a solution for this?

@garyhooper I had to ask my brother-in-law who used to work for HP for about 25 years, and he forwarded this link for Printer drivers. It does appear that it Ventura OS is supported. https://support.hp.com/ee-en/drivers/hp-color-laserjet-pro-mfp-m478-m479-series/model/19203827 — hopefully, that works for you!?

I had already installed (and removed and reinstalled) this latest driver from Nov 2024, to no avail.

Scanning in color using Image Capture or the HP app works just fine...only Acrobat fails.  Further, in flatbed scanning mode, Acrobat can display the color image. It's the process which converts the scanned image to a file that fails.

@garyhooper it might be the HP LaserJet M479 all-in-one is no longer compatitble with the MacBook Pro M4. I tried looking for that printer on HP website, and I can't find it. I found toner for it, but not the printer itself. I found another document that said it was launch on May 20, 2019 as HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdn printer was first available. That's 6 years ago... so I highly doubt the old printer will have a printer driver for the M4, if they no longer sell the printer anymore.

HP's latest drivers were released in Nov 2024, after the release of Sequoia and the M4. HP's scanning app works fine with color images; only Acrobat fails.

@garyhooper Thanks for sharing the details, and I am sorry for the delayed response and trouble.

Install the latest build 26.001.21529. Planned update, May 01, 2026, and see if the issue still occurs.

If yes, use this tool to collect the logs and share them with us: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-diagnostics.html
