Question

Acrobat Reader on Mac keeps reverting to paid version, requires reinstall to fix

I have a Macbook Pro less than one month old, running Tahoe 26.6.2.  Every time I newly install Acrobat Reader, after a few days it seems to think the free trial period is over, and no longer works to view documents.  Then I have to uninstall the software and reinstall it to use again.  How do I solve this problem?

Additional info: I have no other Adobe products installed and have never had any paid Adobe subscriptions.

    Hi reliable_teacherda5a,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

Please try reinstalling the application using the steps as suggested below:

    • Uninstall the application and empty the trash folder. Run the cleaner tool from the following link: Acrobat Cleaner tool.

    • Reboot the machine.

    • Install Adobe Acrobat Reader from the following page: Install Reader.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Meenakshi,

I will follow these steps next time the software locks me out and come back to this thread.

When I have previously run the cleaner tool (I have found this advice elsewhere), it could not find any evidence of Adobe software on the system (i.e. my uninstall was successful), and so had nothing to clean.

I’ve just checked your Install Reader link above and that appears to be the same DMG file as I’m using for my current installation (AdobeReader2600121771.dmg).
