Acrobat Reader on Mac to Acrobat Reader on a PC

I have created a PDF with fillable fields using a Mac (Acrobat Pro 9) for a client. I am easily able to fill out the form and digitally sign it. They have a PC or non Mac computer and are unable to sign the document but can fill out fields. Along with this issue, they have some dropdown menus that stay open without the option to close them.

We don't know how to solve this issue. Under 'Properties' (Mac computer) the Security says Filling of Forms and Signing are 'Allowed". There are no other security restrictions in place.

Thank you,

Alicia in Seattle

oooo yes.... kinda crazy... I am not all that technical and some verbiage just doesn't make sense to me. So to recap, I can:

A) Sign up and pay for Adobe Sign and reformat the PDf through that.

B) Ask the client to use Adobe Reader https://get.adobe.com/reader/

C) Save PDF as 'Reader Extend' though I don't see this option anywhere in me Acrobat Pro 9.

It seems like B) would be easiest....? Ultimately the client will use Adobe Signs to distribute the form so that the data can be gathered in a certain way. For my part, I simply want to get the client a fill-out-able form that can be digitally signed. Then my part will be complete!

Thank you for your suggestions!!  : )   Alicia

Yes, your welcome.

The best approach is what Try67 suggested; have your Client use Adobe Reader.

Your fallback plan, if else fails, consider an Adobe Sign workflow.

What application, including exact version number, is the other person using to view the file?

Hello,

This is what my client says:

[I'm using windows 10 and Adobe Reader touch. Nothing happens. No error and I can't type anything into that field. It doesn't show that its a signature field.]

Wondering if it is due to the older Acrobat Pro 9 version? Could I bring the pdf into Reader DC to 'update"?

Thank you,

Alicia

No, that's not the issue. Ask them for a screenshot of the application, to make sure they are really using it.

Hi Alicia,

We are sorry for the trouble. As described your clients are unable to sign the document but fill out the fields.

Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs that they try to fill and sign? Please share the PDF file with us for testing. Upload the file on the document cloud (https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/home/) generate the link and share the link with us.

Are they getting any error message or code while trying to fill and sign the PDF? If yes, please share the screenshot of the same for a better understanding.

What is the application they are using to fill and sign the PDF document? Please ask them to use the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (Freeware application) to fill and sign the PDF (https://get.adobe.com/reader/)

Also, make sure the PDF is reader enabled. Open the PDF  in Adobe Acrobat > Go to File > Save as other > Reader extended > Enable more tools and then send the document again to the users and ask them to try again and check.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal,

I have uploaded the file to the document cloud. Here is the link:

You suggested I do the following steps but I don’t have those options (I am on a Mac). I can "save as” but that is as far as I get (saving as another format).

I am using Acrobat Pro 9….another email said this was old and unsupported. What version should I be using and can I move the Pdf to that version in order to keep the fields alive?

Thank you for your help on this!!!
