Question

Acrobat reader opening PDF across network clients without request

The issue is that, when I open a pdf document in one client, the same document is opened in a different client acros my local network. None of the acrobat reader´s clientes has the an account logged in the program. All clientes runnig w10 or w11. it happens no matter the version of the acrobat reader installed.

At first there was a workaround wich was disabling the acrobat reader collab sync by killing the process is the tark manager, renaming the .EXE and then deactivate the option to auto start the processs.

But its not working, as the issue returns after a few days.

No clue how to solve it.

    Thanks for the fast reply.
1 - Shared networf folder, mapped as drive E:

2 - It happens with all pdf, no matter wich folder is it in

3 - cannot confirm or deny, since I was not able to locate such options in the installed version.( Im in brazil and the language is PT BR) No especific configurations were made. All configs are the default.

4 - Latest version, updated from the “help > check updates” menu.

    Thanks for the details @juliano_barbosa

This seems to be a cross-client opening issue from the original information you shared, not a text-display problem.

Please note that the Acrobat Collaboration Synchronizer (AdobeCollabSync.exe) only syncs shared-review comments and form data between a client, a local database, and Adobe cloud storage.

    Try the suggestions:

    • On one client, copy a PDF to a purely local path, for example the Desktop or C:, not the E: mapped share. Open it. Does it still open on the other client? Since E: is a shared network folder every client can see, testing from E: can confuse the result, so use a local file the other machines cannot reach.
    • Now open a non-PDF on that same client: a Word document, or just launch Notepad or a browser. If that also appears or launches on the other client, the cause is definitely not Acrobat. It is a screen-sharing, remote-control, monitoring, KVM, or deployment tool on your network, and that is where to look next.
    • To be thorough, on one client fully uninstall Acrobat Reader and repeat the mirroring with another app. If it still mirrors, Acrobat is cleared.

Let us know how it goes, and share your findings.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

The clients cannot access the c: drive or desktop. It is blocked. So the only acessible drive is the mapped drive.

The issue occurs with PDF only

When there is no acrobat installed, there is no problem.

    Thanks for the reply

    Hi @juliano_barbosa

Hope you're doing well, and thank you for reaching out. We're sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

Could you please let us know which version of Acrobat Reader you're currently using? You can check this by going to Help > About Acrobat.

If you're not already on the latest version, please update Acrobat to 26.001.21691 (Planned Update – June 25, 2026) by going to Help > Check for Updates. After the update is installed, please restart your computer and see if the issue persists.

Since you've mentioned that this is occurring across multiple clients on your network, we assume this is an IT-managed environment. If that's correct, we recommend contacting your IT administrator and asking them to log a support case through the Adobe Admin Console. This will allow the appropriate product support team to investigate the issue further and provide assistance.

    Hello @juliano_barbosa,

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. We're sorry for the trouble you had.

Could you please share more details about the issue?

    1. Are the affected machines accessing the PDF from a shared network folder (e.g., SMB share/NAS), or are the files local on each PC?

    2. Does this happen only with specific PDFs or with any PDF file opened in Acrobat Reader?

    3. Can you confirm if “Enable global object security policy” or any collaboration features (Comments/Share/Review) are enabled under Menu> Preferences on these machines?

    4. What is the version of Acrobat Reader installed? Check from Neu > Help > About Adobe Acrobat.

For testing purposes, can you please disable the enhanced security and protected mode in the app and check the performance? Go to Menu > Preferences > Security (enhanced) > turn off these settings, click Ok, restart the app, and check.

Please enable these security settings after the test.

Check whether the file is part of an Acrobat review workflow.
On each affected client, open Acrobat Reader and go to:

    Menu > View > Tracker

If the PDF appears there as a review item, it may be associated with a review workflow. Adobe documents Tracker as the place to rejoin PDF reviews on Windows. For more details, please check this article: https://adobe.ly/4psp6bl

If the PDF was shared for review, unshare or end that review from the owner’s account/workflow.
Adobe’s review workflow is based on sharing the PDF and inviting recipients. The shared document appears in the owner’s “Shared by you” list, where shared documents can be tracked. If no one intentionally shared the file for review and no users are signed in, this would not match Adobe’s documented review workflow.

Ensure that the Acrobat Reader is updated to the latest available build version: 26.001.21691 Planned update, Jun 25, 2026.

Test outside the shared network location.
Copy one affected PDF to a local folder, such as the Desktop, on one machine and open it there.

Let us know how it goes after trying these suggestions, and reach out if you need any assistance.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri
