Acrobat Reader won't install on OS Sierra

I'm trying to install Acrobat Reader on OS Sierra.  I have OS Sierra 10.12.4 on an iMac 27 Retina purchase last month.  The download process is no problem.  However; when I try to install, the progress bar quickly goes to about 65% and stall.  It says "Installing Package Scripts". After several minutes the fan on the computer come on full and almost everything hangs.  Force quitting the the installation app appears to work but the fans remain on full and the system remains mostly  unresponsive.  The only way the stop this is to do a hard reboot with the power button.

I've read that it could be caused by not having the root user enabled but the the same thing happens even when the root user is enabled.

Can any Adobe moderators offer some assistance?  This is a fundamental problem of installing your product on a current version of a widely-used operating system.

Hi cBlane,

As you have mentioned that you get the message " Installing Package Scripts", please refer the troubleshooting steps provided in this thread with the similar issue: Re: Reader 10.1.0 and updates won't install OS X 10.7 Lion

Please try to install Adobe Acrobat Reader DC from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Meenakshi

Thanks for responding.  I already went through the process of enabling the poor user and running chmod 1775 / in terminal.  No luck.  I also tried installing from the link you provided.  I got the same exact problem.

When I check in the console, I do see this line frequently:

root : /etc/sudoers is world writable ; TTY=unknown ; PWD=/private/tmp/PKInstallSandbox.8t6ZYs/Scripts/com.adobe.acrobat.DC.reader.app.pkg.MUI.lfDTSA ;
