Acrobat Stalls for 30+ seconds when opening a new file

I've experienced this problems for a few months now:

- Open a PDF, Acrobat DC automatically opens

- Have about 5-10 seconds of normal operation

- Spinning beach ball appears, program freezes, can't do anything

- 30-60 seconds later beach ball disappears, Acrobat continues as normal

This happens no matter what kind of PDF I open - from a one-page document of text (<100k) to a large poster (>10MB). It is an infuriating problem and I often just have to use the Finder to preview PDFs quickly instead.

I have updated, uninstalled/reinstalled, and restarted my computer. Can someone please help me resolve this issue?
