Acrobat Standard 9: Combine PDF/A Files

My colleague is trying to combine files into a merged PDF (not Portfolio), but some of the files are PDF/A, so they won't combine.
What can be done?
We have set the view to "Never view in PDF/A" mode and restarted Acrobat, but it still won't combine.

I don't think there's much you can do about it in Acrobat Standard. In Pro you can convert them back to "normal" PDFs using the Preflight tool.
