Acrobat Standard vs. Pro?

In the past, I've used Acrobat 7 Pro to proofread PDFs, just making edits in the margins and commenting in text boxes, not permanently altering the text. I also reduced the size of PDFs that got too large after extensive editing. It's time to upgrade (I have Win 7 on a new computer) and I was wondering if Standard would fit my needs instead, as I find Pro a bit overkill, with features that I will probably never use, and Standard is less expensive. Any advice?

    I'm glad to have found this post as I have been thinking about the Pro version. We use quite a few pdf files like the one below for example that are supplied to us and several times throughout the year we need to make updates to prices in these pdf files.

    Most of the time we just have to wait until the supplier gives us new pdf files.  Can the Pro version allow us to update the pdf file with new information on our own?

    A bit off topic about editing, but for your PDF the answer is no. The PDF was created by Nitro and has Type 1 fonts embedded. It might be possible if you can change the number font used to a system font that is acceptable, but otherwise it is not possible. The fonts in the PDF are all type 1 and are focused around Helvetica.

    Some things that Pro has that Standard doesn't that you may find helpful in the future:

    1. Actions/Batch processing

    2. Redaction

    3. Edit all types of objects, not just text.

    4. Preflight, which allows multiple optimizations and fixups.

    Basically I just need to mark PDF proofs, for example, drawing a line

    through text, underlining text, placing proofreader marks in the

    margins, entering comments in text boxes, etc., but not permanently making

    changes to the PDF text. If Standard can do that, I'll be satisfied.

    For Standard & Pro

    Review documents with a complete set of commenting tools such as sticky notes, highlighting, lines, shapes, and stamps

    It may be that Acrobat X Standard  will meet your needs.
    With that said, Acrobat X Pro would "grow" on you.
    Consider - You annotate many PDFs through the course of time. You might desire to aggregate PDFs of a common topic.
    Rather than parking them in the Fibber McGee closet of the HDD you could make effective use of Portfolios.
    If desired, you could add audio annotations. More comes to mind.


    Basically, the Pro release opens horizons not previously considered.
