Acrobat - unable to share PDF

Hi. I can’t seem to find an answer to this so hoping someone can help with the error I’m having in Acrobat.

I have a PDF that I’m trying to share using the ‘Share’ button at the top.

When I clicked on ‘get a link’ I get the following message.

‘Unable to share’
We weren’t able to share your file. Please try again later’

I’ve been trying to make this work for a few days, but still get the same message.
I have the latest version of Acrobat and have updated the OS without luck.

Hope someone can help!

@Tatiana Sometimes Hello! I hope you are well, and thanks for sharing the details.

Could you please confirm whether the personal account is the same account/email you used to log in to this community platform? Please reply to this post to confirm, and do not share any email addresses in this public community post.

Also, try to update the Acrobat app from the help section, go to Acrobat > Help > check for updates, and ensure the app is updated with the latest build: 26.001.21691, Planned update, Jun 25, 2026. Restart the app, and the machine once, and check.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

I am having the exact same issue. Additionally, when I shared a file recently, people couldn’t post comments. When I just tried to update, I received the attached error message. I cannot function in my job with this level of performance from Acrobat.

    Hello @paul_4189

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. We’re sorry for the trouble.

Please close all the Adobe apps, including Acrobat. Try resetting the app’s preferences once. For the steps, please check this article:

Restart the machine and check. If the issue persists, please use the Acrobat Cleaner tool to perform a clean installation, restart the machine, and install Acrobat

Let us know if you still experience any issues.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

    Hi Anand.

    Some answers to your questions...

I already have the latest version of the software installed.

It is happening with all PDFs.
    I am on a Mac. Version 15.7.7.
    It’s a personal machine.
It seems to work fine when I share on the web version. Not ideal to do this every time though.

@paulh50247170 Thank you for sharing the detailed information.

Could you please try resetting the app preferences and restarting the machine?  To reset the Preferences, please check this article:

Also, for testing purposes, turn off the security settings of Acrobat from Menu > Preferences > Security Enhanced > Uncheck the Protected mode at startup and Enhanced security > Click OK, restart the app and try the workflow.

Please enable the security settings after the test.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

    Hi Anand.

I tried both of the suggestions in your previous email.

Resetting the app preferences made no difference, but turning off the security settings did allow me to share a link to the PDF.

    Problem solved.

    Thankyou

    Hello @paulh50247170,

I hope you are doing well, and thank you for reaching out. We're sorry for the trouble you had with the app.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: Version: 26.001.21563. Planned update, May 18, 2026. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

Is it happening with all the PDFs, or with a specific PDF? Are you on a Mac or Windows machine, and what is the version? Can you please share a screenshot of the error message as well?

Navigate to Acrobat Home > Files > Under shared by you. Check if the file was already shared in previous attempts.

    Go to https://adobe.ly/4dBhUnw

Sign in with the same Adobe ID. Upload the PDF manually under Documents. Select the file> click Get link.

Is it an IT-managed machine with restrictions, or a personal machine? If you're signed in with an enterprise/work ID, your organisation may block public link sharing. This can prevent “Get a link” from working.

Try with a different file, and let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

    Hi Anand,

I am also having this problem. I have Acrobat 26.1 and I am on a Mac 26.5.1. I have already tried the above methods to solve the problem, with no success.

When I try to share from the desktop app, it fails, but there is no error reported – the share icon simply has an exclamation point and says I should save the file and try to reshare. (Attempting to do so results in the same failure.)

If I upload a file into my online Adobe account and try to share from there, that also fails. Nor can I open it in the browser – I just get the “sorry something went wrong” error (see screenshot).

This has ONLY started happening since the last update. It happens with all PDFs, even old ones that I have successfully shared previously.

I have also tried to uninstall Acrobat using the Adobe CC app, and it fails at 7%. I have also tried uninstalling it with the Acrobat Uninstaller via the Finder – it also fails, and says it is because the administrator failed to authorise it (not true). I tried several times this morning and the Uninstaller crashed and sent a crash report each time to Adobe.

Considering I can’t even open the Acrobat app in the browser when signed in to my Adobe account, it seems like a problem with Acrobat rather than settings on my Mac??

Please let me know next steps. Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

    Helena

    Hi @Tatiana Sometimes

Thank you for the detailed report, this is really helpful and we're sorry you're dealing with multiple issues at once. Based on what you've described, this appears to be a deeper issue tied to the recent Acrobat update rather than your Mac settings, and we want to escalate this properly.

A few things we'd like you to try before we escalate:

    1. Sign out of Adobe account everywhere

    •    Go to account.adobe.com > Security > Sign out of all devices
    •    Then sign back in fresh on both the browser and desktop app
    •    This rules out a broken account session introduced by the update

    2. Check Adobe System Status

    3. Manual uninstall (since the standard uninstaller is failing)

    4. After clean removal, reinstall Acrobat

    • Try restarting machine once
    • Download fresh from acrobat.adobe.com or via Creative Cloud desktop app
    • Do not update immediately — test sharing on the base installed version first

To help us escalate this internally, could you confirm:

    • Exact Mac OS version (it appears you may be on macOS 26.5.1 — could you double check this?)
    • Are you on an Intel or Apple Silicon Mac (M1/M2/M3/M4)?
    • Is this a personal Mac or managed/enterprise device?
    • Which Creative Cloud version is installed?
    • Can you share the screenshot of the browser error you mentioned?

Will be waiting for your response and how it went.
