Question

Acrobat Update Service Use?

I was wondering what the Acrobat Update Service actually does - because I never get any notification about an update, I always have to manually kick off the search for updates.

This defies the need for such a service running all the time.

In addition, there is already the "Adobe Update Service: Creative Cloud Update Service" running all the time - so there are two services for basically the same task.

I would suggest that Adobe might consider integrating Acrobat into the CC App in order to have one place only that handles updates to all it's applications and get rid of these duplicate processes.

Acrobat Update Service provides elevation for update installation. It is not Acrobat Updater per se.

The technologies behind Acrobat deployment and CC deployment are very different which is part of the reason for different services.

Regarding "I always have to manually kick off the search for updates." Is it because your Acrobat is not updated automatically? If that is the case, there could be many reasons for this. Search Acrobat\Reader forums for how to enable verbose Acrobat Updater logging, collect logs and upload for me somewhere I can access them.

thank you for the explanation of the update service functioning - it makes sense now.

What I meant for the update: I always have to go to the menu and "check for updates" - shouldnt there be a notification in Acrobat when a new version is available?

By default Acrobat updates are installed automatically, so NO, no notifications. You can have notifications by changing registry manually but this would defeat the whole purpose of auto-updates.

Compare with Google Chrome browser updates; do you have notifications before Chrome updates itself?
