Acrobat won't convert Word doc into PDF

Hello, when in folder view with list of documents, I right-click my doc and click Convert to Adobe PDF, however it won't work. This is what happens:

The Adobe Status box comes up and acts like it's about to process it.

The Save Adobe PDF File As box pops up and asks me where to save it. I click Save where I want it.

Then I get different things:

--sometimes a little DOS kind of box opens looking like it's processing but then the Word box comes up and then a Save As PDF box opens to ask me to save it again. I do and then it just saves a log file and no PDF

--or I get an "Create Adobe PDF box that pop up and says Unable to open the document.

Usually it's the former not the later.

But when I go to File > Export > Create PDF/XPS it works!

I'm glad it works, but my preferred way is the first way. Can you help?

Is it the font - it's not found so it won't work?

I believe I have Acrobat version 9.
