Acrobat x stopped working....

A few days ago while viewing a .PDF Acrobat Pro X abruptly disappeared.  Since then, it will no longer start under any circumstance.  Win 7 x64

Tried the following.

1.)  Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features, Adobe Acrobat X Pro - English, Francais, Deutsch, Change, Repair.   - *No Change in Behavior.  Program will not start *

2.)  Attempted the following suggestions found here:

   http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-pdf-creation-cannot-continue.html

Solution 2 did nothing.  Solution 3 prompted me to enter my Acrobat X Pro serial number.  I entered my CS6 Master Collection serial number that was emailed to me by Adobe.  It told me I have an incorrect serial number and would not allow me to continue.

Adobe - I ask that you please look into this issue as soon as possible and post a fix.  I have almost 3 hours tied up into trying to resolve this issue as I can no longer open any .PDF file on my machine.  I also see countless other posts on the same issue with no permanent resolve.

Thank you.

I spoke too soon.  It's happening again. "NOT RESPONDING"

I really don't like Adobe right now.  I cannot imagine how painful it is for you guys with multiple seats.

I'm posting on their fanpage right now.

For all the users who have faced a problem where Acrobat did not launch after 30 days of serializing with a suite serial number, please execute the following workaround:

  1. Make sure you are connected to the internet.
  2. Launch a regular CS6 product other than Acrobat or Flash Builder (for example: Photoshop, After Effects, Premier Pro, InDesign, Flash Professional, Illustrator, Dreamweaver.)
  3. Click on Help->Deactivate .
  4. Deactivate the application. Quit application.
  5. Launch a regular CS6 product other than Acrobat or Flash Builder (for example: Photoshop, After Effects, Premier Pro, InDesign, Flash Professional, Illustrator, Dreamweaver.)
  6. Accept Eula.
  7. Register trial by signing in. Let the app launch.
  8. Quit and relaunch the app. Wait for UI to come.
  9. Click on License This Software button on the UI.
  10. Click on Sign in .
  11. Serial number screen will come
  12. Enter the serial number in the serial number screen and click Next.
  13. Quit app and relaunch the app while connected on the internet .

After this if you launch Acrobat it will launch and run forever without trouble. In case you still face a problem , try relaunching the other CS6 app once more and then launch Acrobat.

This will fix the problem and if done correctly by following the steps,  you will NOT need to repeat the steps after 30 days

Please note:

1.Uninstall and reinstall will NOT fix the problem.

2.Deleting cache or renaming is NOT a solution as it will cause unintended side effects.

In case you face a problem like recurrence after 30 days, please send me a message so that I can help you get the steps corrected.

It's really a wonder nobody has brought a class action lawsuit for lost productivity for failure to deliver a license to a properly licensed product. After all, Adobe has considered it acceptable to leave this registration bug in the software for at least 2.5 years (since 2012) after discovering it. I wonder if it is a breach of contract or just an act of bad faith on Adobe's part?

According to their EULA they are not responsible for lost productivity.

No breach.  The program has to be functional for 30 days, that's all.  I could be mistaken on the 30 days, maybe 60 days but it's a ridiculously short period of time.

It's STILL doing it, happened to me today, I'm scared to do the fix in case it results in more problems, but here goes.....

This is actually extremely ridiculous. It is a known problem. Why doesn't Adobe fix it? Do they realize how many man-hours are being wasted on this stupid issue?

The answer is pretty simple: they already have collected the money from the people who experience this problem.  There's no financial gain fixing it.

Tried all that - still adobe acrobat pro still wants me to login every time and won't accept my serial number.

The solution by Amrita (staff) worked but come on Adobe. We pay large amounts for your software so the least you can do is make sure it works.

I've lost 3 billable hours trying to find this solution - so get it together!

Sorry, but Adobe is not here in general. You are wasting your time complaining to other users.

Acrobat X Pro has stopped working several times on my desktop (windows). I have reinstalled it, and the whole creative suite more times than I care to count, spending hours of time in this work-around. About a week ago I received an email from Adobe asking me to pre-order the new version of Acrobat--XI. Presumably, this will have our issues resolved but I resent and refuse to pay another $200 for that upgrade. I'm furious and my attitude toward Adobe has changed drastically because of their inability or refusal to fix these problems with Acrobat X Pro that are known issues. Seems like they want Acrobat to do everything except vacuum your floor, and no wonder it doesn't work anymore. I'm seriously rethinking using Adobe products.

While adobe is great at adding killer apps, it was never really any good at coding. Got a notice for a dreamweaver update the other day. Updated... and it removed (as usual) all favorites, snippets and I don't know what else. All I know is I've got hours of work to do just to replace what it erased.

Problem with adobe is they have no real competition.

For what it's worth, you can add my name to the list of those having the exact same problem:

Upgraded to CS6 - 64 bit

Now nothing happens when I try to launch Acrobat X Pro OR when I try to simply open a PDF file.

Grrr.

If adobe actually gave a damn this would have already been fixed.  I wonder how many hours of production have been lost by their customers because of this BS.  This is inexcusable in my opinion.  SHAME on YOU ADOBE!!!!

I have done a lot more testing and evaluation of where my problems are actually coming from. I have three computers with three unique installations of Adobe Acrobat X Pro,  it's not like I am trying to spread one license across several different computers which may cause a problem with validation but I am using three individual legal licences and I can get the program to fall over on all three computers one is running XP, one is running Windows 7 in 32 bit and the other is running Windows 7 in 64-bit.....   this tells you that it is not unique to the operating system all the individual computer. Most of the files I am working with are around 80 MB (they are copies of a magazine publication) however there are some files which are only two or three pages and still have the same issues. I can get all three systems to fall over and get the fatal "Acrobat has stopped working" window by simply going to "save optimised"  to try and get a lower file size for emailing etc. I have changed all of the settings from default to really unusual screen resolutions in this section of the program and it makes no difference, it continues to stop working. It will also be sitting there quite happily doing nothing and then come up with its little dialogue box that Acrobat has stopped working. All of this is easily reproducible, on three separate computers, running three genuine individual licences and running on three different operating systems. I do not think the  normal excuses about it must be your computer, your operating system etc etc. have any validation in this argument. I can only support the fact that the problem seems to be a genuine problem with Acrobat itself, I did not have this problem on previous versions. Finally, why, why, why does Adobe update keep going off to the Internet and downloading gigabytes of information for program updates. With the three computers constantly updating I am using all of my Internet download allowance in days. Surely their programs are more stable and don't rely or need daily updates of hundreds of megabytes at a time! I still have my photo shop version 4 disks proudly sitting on my desk, a lot has changed since that time and not necessarily for good!   Adobe, get your act together and get this problem fixed otherwise you are losing more loyal customers then you can quickly replace!

Adobe Acrobat X (CS6 Design & Web Premium) stops working on my Windows 7 Premium 64 bit system too. I just ran my 5th or 6th re-install. This is ridiculous! I'll be viewing a pdf then suddenly it vanishes and Acrobat won't launch again. And what's with the nearly daily updates Adobe?! How annoying. If you're going to constantly get me to update then at least fix this issue too!

Another real problem is, that when cache.db is deleted ALL Adobe registrations are gone!

So even my old CS4 I keep for 32bit-compatibility reasons doesn't work anymore,

luckly I had the old, working cache.db in the trash can... but I really didn't expect that

kills the whole registration, not just the Acrobat problem.

Hope they find a solution, this is unbelievable!

No need to keep an old version just for 32 bit. Photoshop installs both 32 bit & 64 bit programs.

But, oh it gets worse. Got a notice about an update. Did an upgrade last nite. Wasn't one for photoshop, just a few programs I never use. Opened photoshop this morning... got an error. Something about some dll couldn't be found.

Neat. Click the second time and it, thankfully, does open. But it seems the update moves any 32 bit plugins to the 64 bit folder and PS 64 errors out.

Brilliant. I've been saying for years now. Adobe never could code.

This is getting rather tiresome.  Apparently, this is either a low priority for Adobe or they don't know how to fix it.

Just deactivated the Master Suite for the second time, reactivated it with my serial number, and went through all the registration/activation  confirmation hoop jumping that goes along with it.  Works fine . . . for now.

I'm so lucky I'm only dealing with my single computer.  Pity you guys responsible for multiple computers.

Where is Acrobat X Pro "Reader" located within Windows 7, 64 bit?  Reason I ask is, though MSIE will load pdf files into the browser, clicking on Acrobat's desktop icon or menu selection launched nothing.  Tried to print from the browser to Adobe's PDF printer with the option set to display result.  Got an error messase that Acrobat X WAS NOT activated.

Is there a conflict between Adobe X Reader and Adobe X Pro?  Is there a conflict between launching Acrobat X/reader within a web browser.

Is there a problem with Creative Suites authenticating Acrobat X Pro?

So common problems . . . no solutions from Adobe.

I'm having the same issue however my problem did not start until I updated CS6.

I rolled back my system image and it worked fine.

I tried to run the Adobe CS6 updates and Acrobat stopped working again.

Please Adobe, we've paid good money for this.

Help!

Okay I had several critical documents I needed to get to. Thank god I had my I PAD and I was able to access the documents in a timely fashion. I am reading these posts and am

     A) Glad I am not alone

     B) Really upset that this occurs (If it makes you feal better I have 550 seats)

     C) Conerned that I may have to do this on all our computers. WHO WILL PAY FOR MY LOSS PRODUCTIVITY?

I think I will be calling Adone in short order. This is very upsetting. If Adobe monitors these posts it would be my suggestion they chime in here.... just another reason to go away from Adobe products....
