All other programs in the CS6 suite still open.

On what operating system? Acrobat X has not been supported by Adobe for a couple of years (Adobe Acrobat X and Adobe Reader X End of Support | Adobe Document Cloud​), which means that it was never tested with the latest releases of Windows or macOS. The first thing you should do is to check for updates (you will find this function in Acrobat's Help menu) and update to the latest version that Adobe released.
