Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is crashing on the systems I support, but only when they're connected to the internet. If that isn't crazy enough, the problem can be resolved by switching Reader to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7, but will not work when executed under a Windows 8.1 or 10 context. The only difference in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 compatibility mode is the version number that Windows reports to the application, so that would lead me to believe that the issue exists in a Feature that is not supported (enabled) by the adobe application prior to WIndows 8.1 if that helps narrow the scope.

No pdf is needed, I simply click the Adobe Reader DC shortcut and wait approximately 30 seconds and the application crashes.

These are Windows 10 systems and the Windows version is irrelevant, since I can reproduce this on multiple Windows 10 releases with different Build and Revision numbers. The first Adobe version we discovered this issue on is 22.001.20117, but the problem could've been introduced earlier, since we don't normally perfomr Online testing. I have updated all the way to the latest release 22.002.20191 and the issue persists. In addition, our systems are built from the DoD Win10 SHB, so they are fully STIG compliant.

My analysis led me to the Crypt32.dll and a call made to NtWaitForSingleObject() funtion within ntdll.dll as the source of the error, however, I am not equipped with the time (or knowledge) to investigate further to determine why the handle was invalid or the conditions that can lead to that scenario. I can provide the dump (.dmp) file created when the application crashes upon request, since this site doesn't allow .dmp or .zip files.

I would very much like to find a proper resolution to this issue, since compatibility mode is only a workaround, and any help is greatly appreciaed. Thank You!
