Question

Add Signature Validation Support for Digital Signatures (e.g., Indian Aadhaar, PCC) in Adobe Acrobat Reader for Android and Linux/Ubuntu

Currently, Adobe Acrobat Reader on Windows OS fully supports validating digital signatures embedded in PDF documents (such as digitally signed documents issued by the Government of India, including Aadhaar PDF letters, Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), and other certificates).

However, this critical functionality is missing on Android OS and Linux/Ubuntu OS. When opening these same digitally signed documents in Adobe Reader on Android or Linux, the signatures show as unverified, invalid, or unrecognized because the trust anchors or cryptographic validation modules are absent on these platforms.

    Hello @Generous_impression1fc0,

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for the detailed information. Sorry for the trouble you had.

Desktop Acrobat and Reader (Windows/macOS) validate these signatures automatically because they implement Adobe's trust infrastructure, mainly the Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL), plus a certificate-trust UI that lets you trust a root such as the Indian CCA chain behind Aadhaar letters and PCCs.

Android: the Reader mobile app doesn't expose that same AATL trust store and certificate-chain validation, so documents that are valid on Windows show as unverified/unknown. It's an app capability gap, not a setting you can change. For this, you can raise a feature request with the product team directly for the inclusion of the feature: https://adobe.ly/4zd8Ka0

Linux/Ubuntu: there's no current native Adobe Reader for Linux (No support available), so there's no modern Reader on that platform to validate signatures at all.

I hope this helps, and please reach out if you need any assistance.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.
