Adobe acrobat 9 pro extended, cannot connect to servers

I have a copy of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, the serial number that I have has been confirmed to be valid but I cannot use the software because I cannot connect to the adobe servers to complete product registration.

I have done everything detailed on the page: Resolve connection errors with Adobe Creative Cloud and Creative Suite applications

I am unable to load the web pages linked to in the section:

If you see a test successful message (see screenshots below), you have access to the activation servers. Try activating or starting your software.

I have contacted adobe support who have been unable to resolve the issue.

Is there anything else that I can do to fix this issue?

you don't need to register and it's no longer possible to register acrobat 9.

you just need to activate.  did you do that?

Sorry, it looks like my question was incorrectly worded. I have been unable to activate the software, it appears that I am unable to do this because I cannot contact the adobe servers.
