Adobe Acrobat becomes slow and laggy when loading pages in a specific PDF file.

  • When I first open the file, it loads very slowly and briefly shows a blank (white) page
  • After a page finally loads, navigating to the next page is also very slow.

Hi, thank you so much for the answer. I already tried step 1 - 4 but still getting same results. I will try clean install later on.

Also, the mitre pdf also worked fine on my end. It just it slow and it took ~3 - 4 seconds to load a page on that pdf file. However, other file load in nearly instant

    Hi elysia,

Thank you for the information. This issue can sometimes occur with large PDFs or scanned files, and we noticed that the PDF you shared is a scanned document. If you are experiencing this problem with a specific file, it is likely not an issue with the application.

You might want to try reinstalling the application to see if that helps. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

    Hi elysia,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

We tried to open the PDF you shared above, and it opened fine on our end. As it happens, with a particular PDF, there could be a few reasons causing this behaviour.

    • Large embedded images, scanned content, or complex vector elements can slow rendering.

    • Fonts, layers, or hidden objects may cause repeated reprocessing.

    • GPU-related issues can delay page display.

    • Acrobat may attempt to process scanned pages in the background.

Please try the following troubleshooting steps and

1, Test with Page Display Settings: Go to Edit > Preferences > Page Display. Try the following:

    • Enable Use 2D graphics acceleration (or disable it if already enabled)

    • Set Rendering to Smooth text OFF (for testing)

    • Restart Acrobat and reopen the file.

    2. Disable Protected Mode (for testing): Go to Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced). Uncheck the following:

    • Enable Protected Mode at startup

    • Restart Acrobat

    3. Flatten or Re-save the PDF. Use the following steps:

    • File > Save As > Reduced Size PDF

    • Or print to PDF: File > Print > Adobe PDF

    4. Reset Preferences

    • Close Acrobat

    • Rename the Preferences folder:

                  C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\<version>

5.Try reinstalling the application using the steps suggested below:

Let us know if the information helps.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi
