Hello there,

I am repeatedly encountered the issue, that Adobe crashes, when I try to edit an existing PDF regard font type or font size. This happens on multiple PDF documents.

I am using Adobe Acrobat:

  • Architecture: x86_64
  • Build: 20.5.30774.10774
  • AGM: 4.30.122
  • CoolType: 5.14.5
  • JP2K: 1.2.3.54783

I have an MacBook Air (Apple M4) with macOS Tahoe Version 26.5

I have attached the error log, which Adobe reports after the crash.

Hope you can help fix this, as it is really annoying :-(

Correct answer Bettina

@Anand Sri Bhattacharya ok, so I wrote already in my initial post almost everything needed, and besides updating to the latest minor version of my purchase license, already on my side was done already. Still I got the standard checklist questions ...
The problem is not solved, no explanation about the bug inside Adobe, as according to the initially already provided crash reports:
“The cause is most likely a bug in Acrobat itself when applying a text or font change—that is, in the PDF Edit/Text Edit code path. Technically, it is an EXC_BAD_ACCESS / SIGSEGV, specifically an access to an invalid memory address. Both crashes occur on the main thread following an AppKit _routeMouseUpEvent—that is, precisely when the user clicks and releases the mouse in the UI, which triggers the font or font size change. This is immediately followed by several frames in Acrobat.framework on the stack.”

So what should now convince me to pay a monthly license for this software?
As I am also an IT admin at a company, I have already researched alternatives, and I and we will definitely not use Adobe Acrobat (paid version) any longer.

Hello @Bettina,

I hope you are doing well, and we're sorry for the trouble you had with the app.

Could you please confirm if you are on the latest build of Acrobat: 26.001.21691, Planned update, Jun 25, 2026? Check from Acrobat > Help > About Adobe Acrobat. Also, have you tried any other PDF with a different type of font settings? Does the app crash with any other tool as well?

Ensure that you are on the latest build of Acrobat version, and try again. Restart the machine after installing any pending updates of the app.

If the issue still continues, with all the font types and with all the tools, please collect the crash logs using this tool, reproduce the issue, and capture the logs. Share the log with us for further investigations. To collect crash logs, please refer to this article: https://adobe.ly/4eCCQwm

Let us know how it goes, and share your findings.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

Thank you for sharing the details @Bettina

If you are using the Classic version of Acrobat 2020, the last build that was released is: 20.005.30838. Planned update, Dec 09, 2025

The one you mentioned is from June 10, 2025

Please update the app to the latest available version and try again. Also, we would require the crash logs from the Crash Collector tool. It will help us isolate the issue.

Regards,

Anand Sri.
